After uninstalling the 2009 Q1 SP1 release and then installing the 2009 Q1 SP2 release I notice that Telerik's RadControls for WPF does not show in my Vista Home Premium SP2 edition Control Panel/Programs as being installed.

When I went to retry the installation by running the originally downloaded msi I get asked if I want to repair or uninstall the RadControls for WPF. Whichever option I request fails with ".NET 3.5 is not installed" which is patently nonsense. (I am running Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and the Silverlight Controls are installed and working fine). The installation should not be in a state where it cannot be uninstalled or installed and I am now concerned that when the 2009 SP2 release becomes available I will not be able to install it (any install of an existing product invariably stops, insisting that you remove the previous version first).

I would raise a support ticket on this but there's no section I can see for installation. If I click on the WPF controls I'm then required to indicate which specific control I'm raising a support ticket on - which is nonsense of course because I'm raising a ticket on failed installation/clean-up.

Anybody know how I can fix my "working but not uninstallable" control set?

    Hello Ian,

That is very odd, and I have not seen anyone else report something similar. Maybe the installer encountered an error that it did not display during the installation process. I am only guessing at this moment, but maybe there is a way to get some more information. I am thinking that you can run the installer with logging turned on, and send us the installation log.

First, let's try to uninstall the product, so that you can install it again. You can uninstall any installed product if you know its product GUID by passing that GUID to msiexec.exe. On my system, the command below uninstalls the SP2 product:

    c:\windows\system32\msiexec.exe /uninstall {922E1753-0468-4CCD-A82D-E6BEF81899E3}

Try running that, and if all goes well, you will have the product uninstalled. If it does not work, you can try using the Windows Installer Clean-up Utility that is available here. That utility will delete all registry entries related to the product installation, and you will be able to just delete the folder in C:\Program Files\Telerik\..., and reinstall the product after that.

To run a logged installation, you need to use msiexec.exe again. Here's the command:
    msiexec /i RadControls_for_WPF_2009_1_0526_DEV.msi /L*v RadControls_for_WPF.log

The generated log file can get rather big. You may need to zip it, and open up a separate support ticket to attach it.

    Kind regards,

    Any news on this?
I have a similar issue. I am trying a new install of the rad controls for wpf on my Vista 64 ultimate workstation with Visual Studio 2008, .net Framework 3.5 sp1, and SQL server 2008 and 2005.

it starts the install, but then errors with ".NET Framework 3.5 is not installed!". then rolls back.

any help would be much appreciated.

Well I'm embarrassed to say that it turns out that RadControls for WPF was in Control Panel/Programs as being installed after all. I'm sure the previous version identified itself as "Telerik RadControls for WPF" as all the Telerik stuff (I have controls for ASP.NET and Silverlight installed as well) was bunched together in Control Panel. So when I went to look to uninstall it and it wasn't there I thought "Not installed" (in my defence I have a LOT of stuff listed so finding stuff is hard).

After SP2 WPF seemed to be missing - but only because unlike ASP.NET and Silverlight it has lost the word "Telerik" from the front of its name so in the alphabetically sorted list it wasn't showing where I expected it to!

That doesn't solve the ".NET Framework 3.5 is not installed" problem if I try and uninstall but since Control Panel seems to recognise it as being installed and it's working I'm going to hold off doing anything until Q2 release becomes available and I have more time to sort things out as per the advice above.

    Hi Ian and Clint,

Did you have the chance to run the installation with logging turned on?

So far we were unable to reproduce the error and if you can run the installation when logging is enabled it can help us figure out the cause of the problem.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    All the best,

I have, would you like me to email it to you?

I have been able to use the controls by manually setting the references. Blend seemed to have no trouble at all, but VS took a little persuasion....

    Hey Milan,

It appears my account can't open a support ticket. I can add a "Feedback " with it attached.?

    Hi Clint,

This is a follow up message to let you know that actually transforming this forum post into a support ticket will not let you attach files as other user has started this forum. Therefore, I started another forum thread from your account and then I converted it into a support ticket. Please log into your account and you will find the ticket under My Support Tickets section.

I'm afraid I held off any update of WPF controls/diagnosis until I had chance to rebuild my PC with Windows 7, so I no longer have the issue having repaved my PCs.

I was able to get the log file to telerik, and they did confirm that the install was rolling back, but I never got a real solution to the install problem. That being said, I simply copied the files to a folder and addeed them to the toolbox in visual studio and Blend, and the controls work fine. Just had to manually "install" them.

    Hope that helps,
    Clint
