Hello,

to get a jump start in reporting.

Is it in any way possible to import Word or Excel reporting documents as a template(utilizing the format), into report designer, and then continue to work with them in Report designer ? (remember Word/Excel may be saved in xlsx, xml or html format).

Any tricks we do not know about ?

Hi Svein,

Directly importing Word or Excel documents is not possible since a report definition is very different from the output files. Creating a report definition is the first step in a report generation. Then this report definition has to be processed and rendered and finally you have the output file. The report definition gives you the option to organize your data so that it can be rendered and represented in different medias with the same layout, while a Word file for example is the representation itself.

A report definition is a way to organize the data while the output file has the job to represent the data. Because of those differences it is not possible to recreate a report definition an output file.

Have you tried the new visualization options in Telerik Reporting Q1 2013? You can get them from your account.
