My reports are not able to render text hyphens in Telerik Reporting TextBoxes OR in HTMLTextBoxes.  I have strings like "The Ultimate Course Title - Session 3" Rendering with empty spaces or boxes in place of the hypens.  How can I get hyphens to display in the rendered reports?

We're using Win 2003 server 32bit, Telerik reporting version 5.1.11.713.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Jonathan,

What is the format you render the report to or in which viewer you show it respectively? Also what is the version of Telerik Reporting that you use? We've tested with the latest Q3 2011 release and could not observe such an issue.

All the best,

Thank you for your reply.

I've discovered that it only happens with the particular font I'm trying to use.  I'd attach them with this message, but that doesn't seem possible.  I think it may stem from an otf to ttf conversion issue.  The fonts are ttf, but were converted from otf for use in telerik reporting.  Does that make sense? Both the otf and converted ttf versions work fine in MS Word. How would you suggest working around this?  Do you know of a good font converter that can make ttf fonts that work with Telerik Reporting?

Thanks so much,
Jonathan

Hello Jonathan,

You have still not mentioned the format in which the problem occurs - are you referring to PDF? We cannot offer anything concrete without having your specific font and a report that shows the problem, so please open a support ticket and upload those in it. The forums allow upload of images only.

Hello again, and thank you for following up with your request for clarification.

The output format for which these hyphens are missing is PDF.  I haven't tried other formats, as our current project doesn't incorporate a view for the reports, only an interface and methods to configure them and generate a PDF bytestream.  The code works well for other fonts, but the font is a priority requirement from our client. Today I'm going to try to find a font converter that works well with adapting otf fonts for use with Telerik Reporting generated PDFs.  Is there anything else I can tell you about that might help us solve this?  Do you have any suggestions that might help?

Thank you very much for your time and help,
Jonathan

Hey guys, still an issue.  We've prepared a zip file with the fonts, the source, and the output of the report as both a tiff and and pdf: http://beta.easterncurrents.ca/Apex2.zip . The tiff shows hyphens, the pdf shows none.  How can I fix this?

Thanks,

Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for providing the font and sample report. We verified that the hyphens are not rendered correctly but cannot easily identify the cause for this problem (other characters are handled properly) and it is possible that the issue may stem from the otf to ttf conversion issue. Our suggestion is to either look for another font converter and see if the problem persists or get this font as ttf (if available).

Greetings,

Hello again, and thank you for your help.

It turns out that it was a missing hyphens glyph issue, due to otf to ttf conversions.  An advanced conversion option at www.fontsquirrel.com provided a conversion to ttf with the missing glyphs replaced by UTF standard glyphs.  The issue is happily resolved. This will likely also work for anyone else with the same issue.

Good luck to all,
Sincerely,

Jonathan
