Hello Barry,
You can achieve that by editing the control template of RadTabControl. You can search for either TabControlTemplate2013 or TabControlTemplate2010, depending on which one you are using.
Keep in mind that only a couple of themes have that back button - Green, Office2013, VisualStudio2013. Most other themes don't have it.
For your convenience I've prepared a project demonstrating how the edit the control template using the Green theme. Please, review the attached project and let me know if it delivered the desired result.

Hi Dimitar,
Can Telerik add a boolean property to collapse the visibility of the back button? If you open up Excel without a specifying a file, you'll see there is no back button in the backstage area. We shouldn't have to edit your templates to make that work normally.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,
Thank you for your feedback.
I can agree that such a property would indeed be useful and have thus logged a new feature request in our feedback portal regarding it. If this request accumulates enough votes, we will consider its implementation in future releases.
