Has anyone converted the old superseded Telerik MVC Themes to Kendo?

I have been producing Telerik MVC Extensions with the Forest theme for several months now.  Finally a new project came along and I decided to use Kendo UI Web.  The problem is every time I show a demo, I get comments on how much better my peers like the old MVC Forest theme.

Has anyone done the work to recreate the Forest Theme for Kendo Web?

Thanks!

Hello Matthew,

The MVC Extensions legacy themes are already available inside the Kendo UI Complete for ASP.NET MVC archive in the \wrappers\aspnetmvc\LegacyThemes folder.

The ASP.Net Ajax themes look way more professional than the ones in Kendo UI.  The Kendo themes look so teen-age-ish with their large amounts of padding.  They're washed out/faded (contrast-wise) and lack the crispness of the ASP.Net Ajax ones.

I'm hoping eventually Telerik will port some of the legacy ones over.  Kendo theme builder is just not adequate enough to make crisp-looking themes.  Will Telerik be bringing at least a few of the popular older themes over to Kendo ??

Hello Curt,

Thank you for the feedback. We will consider it while adding new themes to the collection in future releases.

"The ASP.Net Ajax themes look way more professional than the ones in Kendo UI."

ASP.NET AJAX skins and Kendo UI themes follow different design concepts and technology principles. While each of the AJAX skins is built with more than a dozen of icon sprites, the Kendo UI widgets have only one sprite per theme. The gradients and shadows available in the AJAX skins are images, while Kendo UI uses CSS3 with fallback images for older browsers, allowing easier customization with CSS or LESS only /one does not need graphic editor e.g. Photoshop to edit sprites/.

Each one of the approaches has its pros and cons - the AJAX way allows for a bit richer visuals, while the Kendo approach makes theme customization and unification easier.

"The Kendo themes look so teen-age-ish with their large amounts of padding."

Kendo UI widgets were designed and optimized with respect to touch-enabled devices. Hence the dimensioning differences to our ASP.NET MVC legacy themes.

Following the Content over Chrome principle, we tried to create skins that fit as much scenarios as possible with little to no customization. We do agree that we lack "Office" skins or "Blue" or "Green" color only skins and we will consider adding such to the suite or independently releasing them.

All the best,
