We are getting the attached exception on our remote RDP terminals when a client is trying to print preview document when the terminals have no printer installed.

We need to still have the print preview work as user log into the terminal to view data but the terminal may not have any printers defined (this is on purpose because we don't want them printing documents to our printers)

Is there a work around to prevent this error, but still allow print preview to work?

Hi Kim,

Thank you for writing.

The PrintPreviewDialog is not meant to be used without a default printer because, the default printer settings are used for initialization of the print document that is showed in the dialog.

The best solution for you will be to use a document printer. The easiest one is the Microsoft XPS Document Writer which is installed automatically on Windows Vista and later versions of Windows and can be downloaded and installed on Windows XP with SP2 and Windows Server 2003.

I hope this helps. Should you have further questions I will be glad to help.

Dimitar

If I log in with RDP, and I set my connection to map printers, should it not see those printers?

Hello Kim,

Thank you for writing back.

Our print preview functionality is briefly extending the default one from Microsoft. This means that if your microsoft applications (the ones that have print preview) are working on your RDP the RadGridView print preview will also work on these machines. Basically if you see any printer in your Devices and Printers directory the print preview should work.

Please let me know if there is something else I can help you with.
