Does Telerik Reporting include an end-user designer? Is it royalty-free?

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your interest in our product.

Indeed, having an end user report designer available at runtime is a great idea and it is part of our future plans.
However, I cannot provide you with the exact version in which we will add this feature, but we will do our best to implement it in the near future.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any other ideas that might help us to improve the product and its functionality.

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely yours,
Trayko Stoilov

I'm interested in the same thing. That's the last piece I'll need before I can seriously consider moving from ActiveReports to Telerik.

Is it possible that you could simply house your existing designer in a Windows form? I'm not familiar with how you're designer is setup, but I would imagine that as a VS Designer, it should be able to be housed in a form without too much modification.

Since Data Dynamics decided to hose their customers and charge an additional $1500 for a product that should be an add-on to their existing line, you have a golden opportunity to pick up irritated longtime customers that are tired of their change in company direction.

Hello Steve Kinyon,

Unfortunately, regret the things a much more complicated that it looks like. We at Telerik do dream of an end-user designer more than anyone else and we are doing our best to make it happen.

Generally speaking our plans for the next year are to start working on both Windows Forms and Web base end user designers that will allow to embed them in desktop and web applications.

I hope this information helps.
Thank you.

Best wishes,

Just checking to see if any progress has been made with the web-based end-user designer?  Or at least a Windows based end-user  designer?

Hello alo,

We have not been able to start working on this yet. Once we do it would be noted in our RoadMap here, and we would surely start of with a windows forms end-user designer first.

All the best,

I would like to see it on the roadmap real soon.  It looks like this feature has been requested almost two years ago.  It's tough to convince my clients to use Telerik Reporting instead of Crystal Reports when there isn't an end-user designer.

Here's a link to a company that provides a web based end-user designer.

Hopefully, you will be able to add something like this real soon.

Hello Al,

Although we would prefer as much as you do to focus all our resources into this feature, we have hundreds of other clients to think of, whose priorities were/are very different. The very first release of Telerik Reporting was two years ago and we had very basic functionality back then (as expected for v.1.0), so introducing end user designer when you have nothing to fill it in with is kind of pointless. That is why we wanted to make sure that we have all important features for a reporting product first and then take care of feature like that. On top of all this, we are playing catch-up with all vendors on the market, as our reporting product is probably the youngest of all.

We hope that you understand our position on this.

Regards,
Steve

Any progress on a royalty free end user designer?

This is a major roadblock. We cannot expect our customers to have Visual Studio or depend on us to create reports.

I am surprised that this feature has not been prioritized higher.since this would be a basic requirement for an ISV to integrate reporting with their product. On the other hand, I can see this feature not having much value for in-house reporting needs.

Just heads up, guys! Feel free to try the standalone Telerik Report Designer. It was released with Q2 2012 in June, and we plan to add several features in Q3 2012 next month. This will bring the features in the standalone tool in par to the Visual Studio report designer.

Download it and give it a spin!
