Hello,

I'm currently facing a problem with Telerik Reporting menus in Visual Studio 2019.

Last week I've created some reports, all was working well.

Today, I had to modify some of them but report files are not displaying icons of reports but of c# code.

When right clicking on my reports I don't have designer menu anymore (View designer menu).

What's really strange is that on other older reports, I still have this menu available and can view the designer.

I havent installed VS update

I tried to reinstall Telerik reporting package on my machine

Nothing changes.

The fact is that there is a difference between old reports and the one I created last week that make the first ones editable and the last ones not.

Do you know where I could search to find this difference that would make me able to edit them again please ?

Thanks

Regards

Hello,

I am really sorry to hear that you are experiencing such an issue.

Can you please test to run the Upgrade Wizard to make sure that all Telerik Reporting versions are the same?  Also, which is the version of Visual Studio that you use?

Please, consider opening a new support ticket and upload the project, so we can inspect the problematic reports locally.

Hello,

i'm using VS2019 Version 16.7.3.

If I run Upgrade wizard, will it upgrade Telerik Reporting dlls version ? If so, I don't want to upgrade it like that. An upgrade needs testing before doing it and potentially break all already developped reports.

This is why I'm asking for another way to make my reports editable again in VS2019.

Thanks

Regards

Steeve

Hi Steeve,

Yes, if you run the Upgrade Wizard the references to Telerik Reporting assemblies will be upgraded to the selected version. You can also test to upgrade manually.

It will help us a lot if you can send us the problematic application, so we can test it locally and try to provide further suggestions.

I will be looking forward to receiving an update from you.

Hi Neli,

Ok so I won't upgrade, the impact is too loud for a production application.

About sending the project to you :useless and impossible (project is too big with too many dependencies and it's confidential). But I want to be clear :It would certainly work on your machine.

Let me explain : the problem is on one of my machines. When using in an other machine, it works. This is why I ask you how to check what is different between some reports that work on my first machine and other reports that doesn't work on my first machine.

To resume :

Machine 1 :

- Report A : view designer menu OK

- Report B : view designer menu KO

Machine 2 :
- Report A : view designer menu OK
- Report B : view designer menu OK

So what I need is a way to understand why a report is working normally and not the other please.

Regards

Steeve

Hi Steeve,

Thank you for the additional information.

Please, make sure that you have the designer.cs file of the reports that do not work and the version that is used for the report creation is installed on the machine. Can you give us more details about the environment in which the reports do not work?

You may try to test to attach Trace Listener to Visual Studio. The generated log file might provide more information about the issue. You can also try to use another Visual Studio to debug what's going wrong in the first one as explained in Attach to Running Processes with the Visual Studio Debugger article from Microsoft.

Hi Neli,

Juste made the last Visual Studio update and all is ok now... Really don't understand why it works now as it is a visual studio update and not a telerik one.

By the way, thanks for trying to help

Regards

Steeve
