Custom popup edit form

I would like to open a custom popup edit form when the add or edit button is clicked on the grid instead of the auto-generated edit form. The custom popup edit form will do other lookups for user interaction which are needed before a save/update can occur.

I am using MVC3 with the Kendo grid.
