Converting standard select element to kendoDropDownList removes additional properties from option such as data-

I have additional data that I would have liked to be included in the option tag and then read after the change event. However, any data- attribute I add to the option is removed after I convert it to a kendoDropDownList. I do not wish to set the datasource and a custom template. I simply want the converted select element to retain its original properties.

Currently, the widget is not designed to persist data attached with data attributes. In order to acheive your goal you will need to define dataSource with the additional data in every data item. You can share your thoughts on our Kendo UserVoice page. Thus more people cast their vote for it.
