Hello Berrin,

As outlined in the Known limitations of Telerik Reporting thread, interactive reports are not yet supported. We're working on hyperlinks support for the Q2 release, and you would be able to drill down to another report, navigation inside the report and to external links, but clicking inside a chart area is not in our short term plans. If you use the new hyperlinks functionality instead, you should be able to achieve similar functionality.

Kind regards,
Steve

I need to add Client-side sort capabilities to my CrossTab report. Will this new Q2 Interactive functionality allow an end-user to change the sort-order/column, and refresh?

Hi Michael Epley,

Currently we do not offer out-of-the-box dynamic sorting. However this is in out To Do list and we will introduce this feature with a subsequent version of Telerik Reporting. In the meantime there is an easy workaround that includes Actions.

Check out the attached sample report that illustrates how to accomplish single column interactive filtering with direction toggle.

Similar case have been discussed in the Interactive Sorting forum thread.

Hello,

We are happy to announce that Reporting Q3 2010 offers drill down interactive functionality for all report items, but charting. Q3 2010 was released yesterday.

The drill down interactivity complements the previous interactive features, introduced earlier this year (drill through, links, etc.). Review What's New in Q3 2010 Reporting and check the more technical Q3 release notes.

The Q3 version with drill down reporting is available for download in your account.

Enjoy and send us your feedback!

Sincerely yours,
Vassil

Hi Gang,

I tried out the sample and it works the way it was built with Q3 2010 of the Telerik reporting. The problem is, if you add a Report Parameter to the report, and you don't have a default value for it ie. you need to specify the value it at least once, the sample and the "work around" doesn't work.
To recreate, do the following:
1. Download the sample and open Report6 in design mode
2. Add a parameter to the report, call it Year, leave the Value as blank and see the Visible to True
3. Preview the report and place the mouse in the Year Textbox, don't enter a value, and Press the Tab button. The Preview button will now be enabled.
4. Press the Preview button. The report will load correctly. See the images included.
5. Now press the hyperlink on Manufacters to sort by that column. The Report errors out as now it requires that Parameter.

From all my testing, when Action Hyperlink is set to Navigate to Report, the only event that gets fired is the Constructor of the Report and no state seems to be stored thus your sample works because the ObjectDataSource's internal event is fired to load the Cars collection.
When you add a report parameter, this all falls apart. I would think that there would be a way to have it work like the Paging arrows do which seem to page through the data without reinitializing the report. Is there a way to do this?

I really need to get the sorting working but I can't think of any other way to do it. Is there some other event I can tap into or something I can add to fix this until Telerik gets around to adding this to their Reporting product??

Thanks,

Leo

Hello Leo,

If a new Report Parameter is added and you want to keep its state for a NavigateToReportAction you have to set a value for the parameter of the target report as well (Edit Action -> Edit Parameters). When the user clicks the link in the report, the target report opens and displays the information for that specific value.

You have to add your parameters with the Edit Action -> Edit Parameters dialog:
Parameter   Parameter Value
 MyParameter1  =Parameters.MyParameter1.Value
 SortDirection  =ToggleSortDirection(ReportItem, "Manufacturer")
 SortBy  Manufacturer

Check out the attached sample. I have updated the report with one visible Report Parameter without a default value.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the information as that works but this is a very crazy solution and Telerik REALLY needs to implement this!!!

For example, I have 9 report parameters can be passed into the report, plus 2 that I need to add to track sorty ie. SortBy, SortDirection. So 11 in total.
Then for keep column I was to sort by, I need to add these 11 parameters manually and all the code expressions. Let's say I have 4 column's that I can sort by, that 44 parameters I need to add. At 30sec to add each parameter, that is 22mins I will never get back plus a lot of code to keep track of an maintain.

I know the solution isn't easy but maybe you can make the IDE easier to copy parameters down to different levels or UI. This would at least reduce the effort, support and errors that can arise. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the great work and I love the suite of tools.

Thanks for all you help,

Leo

Is there an item on your issue tracker that can be voted on for the Interactive search by column?

I'm sort of wondering if I should take the trouble to do it or just wait.  I remember doing the same thing for SSRS 2000 and then SSRS 2005 came out with sorting.  It's an extra pain making a graphic arrow go up and down and if you have 8 columns it's not fun.

Hi Dan,
I don't know if there is one and I don't think Telerik has done much even in the latest release which, at the time of this reply, would be 2011 Q2 release.
Hope this helps,

Leo

Hi,

Clearly out of the box interactive sorting is important feature and we would do our best to include it for subsequent version of the product. However currently our hands are full with other high priority tasks and we can't engage with a time frame.

Kind regards,
Peter

Hello Drew,

Interactive sorting has been on our to-do list, together with a ton of other requests, some of which tagged as “very high priority”, such as standalone report designer (a.k.a. end user designer), integrated charting engine, interactive charts. Let me assure you that we are moving down the priority list at the fastest rate that we can and the standalone report designer we released in Q1 2012 is living proof of that.

Until then, please use the workaround we proposed in earlier posts – it might look cumbersome to implement, but it is a working workaround, which should help you satisfy the needs of your users.

Hi, in the latest changes, is this supported yet?  When I upgraded my Reporting to the latest version, I had to redo a lot of my sorting code to use the ReportSource object.  Just want to know if anything easier has come about, but I understand you do have your hands full with the releases you've recently made.

Thanks!

Hello Drew,

Interactive sorting by "column" in the Crosstab(Table, List) can be done using the steps shown in the attached movie InteractivSorting.zip. The report is also attached. In order to run it in the standalone Report Designer, the connection string of the sqlDataSource1 should be configured to point to the AdventureWorks database.

The parameter is Visible for debug purposes.

I know how to do this manually, but is there any more out of the box functionality yet in the new Reporting releases that support easier configuration of Interactive Sorting?

Thank you,
Drew

Hi Drew,

As stated before by my colleague you can rest assured that this feature is in our to-do list but we cannot engage with certain time frames at that point. For the time being you can use the suggested approach.

BUMP

Has the out of the box sorting been implemented in the latest reporting release, or is it still in the infamous TODO list?

 Thanks
