Hi There,

I am having quite a baffling issue and I am wondering if anyone can help. I am using a trial version of 'RadControls for WPF Q2 2011' in my WPF application, but every time I try adding a RadChart to my UserControl, it gives me the following (quite unexpected) error:

NotImplementedException was unhandled by user code
The method or operation is not implemented.

Can anyone offer any help with this one? Why would it throw a NotImplementedException?

FYI, I am also using Prism and MEF.

Hello Kevin,

We haven't faced such issue before relating to usage of our RadChart control in prism or MEF. This is most likely a MEF authoring error, and is not related to the Chart control.

I'm experiencing the exact same issue with RadChart Q3 2011 release. I've seen this problem once before, and resolved it by added a project reference to Telerik.Windows.Controls.Charting (not just Telerik.Windows.Controls.Chart) but this time I can't figure out what missing depedency is causing the problem. Just as a troubleshooting step, I added a reference to EVERY telerik assembly, but I still it. Is there a dynamic reference in the Telerik component to a .Net Framework component that's not obvious? Where can I find an exhaustive list of dependencies for the chart?

Hi Tony,

If I remember correctly, the way I solved this (keep in mind I was using Prism and MEF) was to add a reference to Telerik.Windows.Controls.Charting from the Shell project as well as the Module project. That way, the reference in the module project helps to resolve objects at design time and the reference in the Shell project helps MEF to resolve references at run time.

I hope that helps. Perhaps your situation is different.

That worked! It feels wrong for the shell to have a reference to a charting component that's only used by a module that may or may not be deployed, but it's a good short term workaround until I find a better solution. This does not seem to be a Telerik issue, though. Rather, it's related to using Prism/MEF in a composite application as you suggested.

Kevin, do you mind chatting about this with me outside this forum? Just curious about a good long term solution and possibly clearing up any confusion I have about composition.
