Can Telerik Reporting do this?

I have no exposure whatsoever to Telerik reporting (and unfortunately I need a quick answer.)

It's my understanding that Telerik Reporting is completely incompatible with SSRS, a totally different system.

If so, we've run into a technical roadblock with SSRS and I'm looking for alternatives.

Can anyone definitively tell me (and better yet provide a sample) if Telerik Reporting is capable of exporting a report into PDF that consists of a title/cover page that is entirely covered by an image, and a following set of report pages that all have header and footer fields?

(I know this sounds trivial but apparently header/footers in SSRS leave blanks on the title page, even if they're set to do not print.)

Hi Boris,

Your scenario is easily achievable with the use of report header and page header/footer. What you have to do is add a report header with the respective height (in your case it will be one page) and then place a large image on it. The report header will be rendered only once in the beginning of the report. Then add the page header and footer and customize them according to your needs. Finally select them and from properties set PrintOnFirstPage to false for both of them.

I hope that helps.

A couple more questions.

Do I understand correctly?  The Telerik ReportViewer control does not allow viewing of SSRS format reports?

Also, for lack of a better question, what is the Telerik ReportViewer?  Is this a Telerik Rad Ajax control or something else?
I'm running VS2012 and when I drag it onto an ASPX page in a standard 4.0 web application, the system adds a reference to Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.  (Just seems a little odd if the report view is in fact completely incompatible with SSRS.)

Also, does Telerik reporting have any equivalent of SSRS's default viewing system?  (That <server>/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx setup.)

Thanks.

Hello Boris,

Up to your questions:
  1. Telerik Reporting and SSRS are two completely different reporting solutions, created and developed by two different companies (Microsoft and Telerik). Because of that they may share some similarities (i.e. they are both reporting engines) but on the other hand are two very different products with their own inner logic, workings, etc. Therefore it is not possible to view a Telerik Reporting report with the respective report viewer from Microsoft and it is also not possible to view an SSRS report with our Report Viewer.
  2. The Telerik report viewer is not an Rad AJAX control, although some rad controls were used for its creation.
  3. What you have added is the report viewer developed by Microsoft. Once you properly install Telerik Reporting in your Toolbox you will see our report viewer too. When you drag it on your page references to Telerik.Reporting and Telerik.ReportViewer.WebForms will be added.
