How do I uninstall Q1 2008 release ?
When I try to uninstall I get an error saying that it can not connect to the master database on SQL .... and then it rolls back the uninstall !!
I have not changed my SQL configuration.

Hello Michael,
You can try deleting AdwentureWorksQ1 database trough Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio before uninstalling Telerik Reporing. This could happen if you use Windows Vista and your account does not have enough rights to work with SQL Server.
If this does not help, please provide the exact error and any additional information such as OS and SQL version.
Kind regards,
Hrisi

Your answer does not help. I know I can delete the example database.
The ONLY error I get is that SQL is not found and the a rollback of the uninstall is performed.
The problem is that the uninstall package does not find my SQL server and consequently the comlete uninstall fails.
I'm guessing that the uninstall package is looking for a /SQLEXPRESS instance and when I installed it I used a dev version of SQL.
So how do I manually delete ALL the components of WinForms ?

Hi Michael,
Unfortunately the only workaround is to install SQLEXPRESS and after that run the Reporting uninstall. Of course you can make a new instance of your SQL Server 2005 and name it SQLEXPRESS.
The problem is omission on our part in the uninstall script, because it always looks for (local)\SQLEXPRESS instance and does not check for the actual instance it installed on. The problem will be addressed immediately.
Sorry for the inconvenience once again. Your Telerik points have been updated for bringing this to our attention.
All the best,

The problem still exists with the trial version of the software. I installed to a named instance and can not currently uninstall.
The trial version TelerikReporting Q1 2008 trial
The trial version TelerikReporting Q1 2008 trial

Hi Matt Place,
Unfortunately the uninstall script always looks for (local)\SQLEXPRESS instance. To successfully uninstall Telerik Reporting you should have an instance with this name. Additionally if the samples database (AdwentureWorksQ1) is installed to another instance you should remove it manually and repeat with the uninstallation.
Please let us know if this does not help.

Hi,
I'm running into this also. Can I just install the Telerik reporting Q2 trial over the top of the Telerik reporting Q1? I'm running SQl Server 2005 developer edition and who knows what will happen if I try and install SQL express on the same machine. Or should I install another instance of SQL Server 2005 and call it SQL Express? just so I can get this upgraded?

OK I installed another instance of SQl Server 2005 developer called SQLEXPRESS, I had to stop the default SQl Server Service instance to get telerik reporting to finish uninstalling. All is good.

Hi Jonathan,
It is great that your solution worked. However, let me answer some of your questions as well:
- Can I just install the Telerik reporting Q2 trial over the top of the Telerik reporting Q1?
Yes, you can successfully install new versions of Telerik Reporting without uninstalling the previous ones. We support side-by-side deployment of the new releases unless it is a service pack. Only for a service-pack release you have to uninstall the version for which is the service pack. Side-by-side installations allow you to use the different versions of the Reporting product simultaneously.
- I'm running SQl Server 2005 developer edition and who knows what will happen if I try and install SQL express on the same machine.
There is no problem to install SQL Server Express edition although you have another edition installed.

this is still broken in the 2009 releases.
I also can not install using any other instance name than SQLExpress. I don't want to have two instances of sql server in any shape running on my computer

Hello Matt,
Actually since Q1 2009 we no longer uninstall the AdventureWorks database, thus we do not check for SQL instance on your machine. So we're not sure how you cannot uninstall Q2 2009 - having the above in mind, please send us detailed information on the exact order of which you've installed SQL instance and Telerik Reporting and how many versions you have of each. A video showing the installed version and the error upon uninstall would be appreciated.
As explained in our system requirements, the reporting examples require SQLExpress or SQL Server 2005+ to be installed on local machine.

I apologize. I don't actually know if it doesn't work on uninstall.
However, I do know that you can not install the demos w/o SQLExpress installed. I did not try to uninstall the product until after I had installed SQLExpress.
The baffeling part to this issue is that the user is given the option to choice the instance to install the demo to. However, if you select (local) you get a failed to connect to server error.

Hello Matt,
The name (local) does not guarantee that this is how your sql server is named. In fact you can name the server anyway you like and you can verify the correct name by using SQL Server Management Studio to connect to your sql instance. Note once again that the SQL instance should be installed on your local machine.
Sincerely yours,
Steve
