We have a legacy web application leveraging "Telerik Reporting Q1 2015 SP1 (version 9.0.15.324)" and would like to bring it up to date with the current version "ProgressĀ® TelerikĀ® Reporting R2 2019 SP1 (13.1.19.618)".

I have not been able to find anything to indicate what, if any, breaking changes were introduced in more recent versions or any other pitfalls we may face thus it is difficult to plan the effort or weigh the value.

Does anyone know if the newest version is backward compatible with version 9.0.15.324?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Hello Matt,

From Q1 2015 we have introduced lots of new functionalities and improvements, but also some breaking changes. About the upgrading Telerik Reporting projects process, we recommend a few things:

  1. When upgrading reports we recommend checking the Release History notes and Upgrade Path articles, in order to determine if any of the breaking changes affect your project. We publish such article for each release and explain briefly what are the changes in the new version, thus helping our users to ease the upgrade process.
  2. After the new version is installed, test upgrading the project to the latest version of Telerik Reporting with Upgrade Wizard and then rebuild the project.
  3.  When upgrading an old project directly to the latest version of Telerik Reporting build errors might occur. This is due to the API changes introduced during the years.
The recommended approach for upgrading, in this case, is to download an official release of each year between the project's Telerik Reporting version and the target version and upgrade step by step (i.e. year by year).
Please check the guidelines on how to upgrade an old project which is provided in How to Upgrade an old project to the latest Telerik Reporting version KB article.

Hi Matt,

Following up from my colleague's reply, it seems your account does not have any licenses. Is your subscription registered to a different account? Please advise at your convenience, and feel free to reach out to me if you have any further questions.
