In the "Adding Screen Tips" example I can't find a way to apply the screen tip template after clicking on the screen tip property drop-down-arrow. And if I just click off the pop-up the form will crash in the IDE (after close and reopen) because it has added design items that are not fully configured.

Hello Brad,
The selected screen tip is applied in case changes are made to the template. In other words, in order to apply the selected template, one must change the default values (for example - the caption text).
We could not reproduce it the exception you described. It will be best if you can send us a project that we can use to easily arrive at the behavior.

I just opened the pop-up had a browse of the options available then clicked off without making any changes. But it still added some controls/objects to the designer's partial class and caused general havoc. It doesn't happen every time (intermittent). It's a bug, but not a show stopper!

What you're describing is indeed undesired behavior. We are aware of this behavior and it is due the Windows Forms design surface. We will further investigate the issue and provide a fix in upcoming releases.
