2 Side Multi Select Control

I would like to build a 2 sided multi select control like the following using Kendo UI MVC:

I would imagine to do this I would need to create a custom Kendo UI widget by inheriting from the base widget class?? Does anyone have any examples or ideas how to do this?

Yes I have already seen the extension helper example link you provided. Would you have an example of how to merge two multi select widgets as one control?  Basically like the following:
