Telerik blogs

Hi all,

In this blog post I will show you some of the new features of RadComboBox, RadTreeView, RadUpload and RadScheduler which will appear in our Q2 2008 release. First I will introduce you with a cool new RadComboBox feature.

Did you become a Telerik fan on Facebook yet? If not you can do so by going to http://telerikwatch.com/2008/06/become-official-telerik-fan.html. The reason I am talking about Facebook is that the new filtering functionality of RadCombobox works quite similarly.

To enable this new feature you will need to set the Filter property to either one of the 3 different modes –None, Contains and StartsWith.

Here's what they mean:
    None – This is the default and means that no filtering is performed.
    StartsWith - in this mode items which start with the entered text will be displayed.

    Contains - in this mode all items which contain the entered text will be shown.

Next in the list is RadTreeView. Now it offers the much anticipated tri-state checkbox feature.

To enable it you can just set the  TriStateCheckBoxes  property of the tree to true. Here a screenshot showing of the tri-state checkboxes in action:

Another related feature we introduced in RadTreeView is the CheckChildNodes property. When it is set to true checking a parent node will check all children.

RadUpload and RadProgressArea now have a built-in localization support via the Localization property, which can be used to customize the text of the control elements. The controls use the native .NET 2.0 localization mechanism, e.g. all you need to have the controls localized in a specific language (e.g. German) is:

1) Add an App_GlobalResources folder to your website;
2) Copy the RadUpload.resx and RadProgressArea.resx files from the distribution to your website's App_GlobalResources folder
3) rename the files to match the locale (e.g. RadUpload.de-DE.resx, RadProgressArea.de-DE.resx)
4) set the Culture property of the RadUpload and RadProgressArea control instances to the locale (e.g. Culture="de-DE")

If you want to change a specific localization string without changing the whole resource file, you can use the Localization property, e.g.

RadUpload1.Localization.Clear = "Remove";

RadProgressArea1.Localization.CurrentFileName = "File being processed: ";

We are currently building Exchange appointment provider for RadScheduler. The provider will allow you to use the Exchange server as a data source for appointments. The synchronization done in real-time by using WebDAV. The provider will be available with full source code.

All those features will first appear in the upcoming "Futures" release. If you have any feedback with regards to those features please drop us a line.
