Telerik blogs

Today is a BIG day for Telerik. As revealed earlier today by Telerik's co-founders and co-CEOs, Telerik has entered an agreement to be acquired by Progress Software, a U.S.-based public company (PRGS) with an established, global presence. You can refer to the blog post from our co-CEOs and today's official press release for more details, but I wanted to take a minute to talk directly to you: the long-time supporters and fans of Telerik that have helped us reach this major milestone.

As many of you know, I've been around Telerik for a while. I was employee #2 in the US and joined Telerik just as we expanded from a single product (RadControls for ASP.NET) to three products (RadControls for WinForms and Telerik Reporting). Before joining Telerik, I was a customer, a Telerik(Watch) blogger and part of the early group of "Telerik MVPs" that spent hours on the forums helping other Telerik customer's unlock the full power of Telerik's tools.

Needless to say, I've had the great pleasure of watching Telerik evolve from a 50-person company with one product to more than 700 people today and a vast portfolio of products. I've also had the honor to meet many of you, especially during my years as Chief Evangelist, and as a result, I feel a special connection with our developer community.

So, on a big day like this, I wanted to address a few burning questions likely on your mind.

What happens to the existing Telerik products?

A lot! Part of the reason we're very excited about this new chapter with Progress Software is the new opportunity it creates to continue to grow the reach and power of our developer tools. Our UI libraries, productivity tools, data tools and more will continue to receive the kind of rapid innovation and updates you've come to expect from Telerik. With Progress, we will further solidify Telerik as the undisputed leader of professional UI and developer tools.

In fact, there are three major releases just around the corner that we can't wait to ship:

  1. Telerik DevCraft Q3 2014 release ships next week (October 27)
  2. Kendo UI Q3 2014 ships mid-November (beta by the end of October)
  3. Telerik Platform will be shipping some MAJOR enhancements in December

The pipeline of new product innovations and rich product roadmaps has never been better at Telerik (and I should know), so this is a very exciting time to be a Telerik customer. As part of Progress, you have the peace of mind that your tools will continue to evolve with your projects for years to come.

In the meantime, nothing changes to your interactions with Telerik. You can download new (and old) versions of Telerik products from the same places. You can get support from the same places. You can even find great Telerik videos like this in all the same places (don't miss @GabeSumner's outtakes at the end).

What’s next from Telerik and Progress?

Obviously, we think there are some pretty powerful scenarios the combined Telerik/Progress portfolio will uniquely be able to address, and we look forward to sharing more of our combined roadmap thinking with you soon.

In the meantime, you will continue to see Telerik innovate in the areas that have created a lot of new problems for developers: mobile app development, HTML5/JavaScript UI, responsive web, modern app testing and, of course, the latest evolutions in the Microsoft .NET UI stack. As our co-CEOs said in their blog post, we will continue to maintain our relentless focus on making developers' lives easier and delivering more than expected.

For now, let me close with another THANK YOU to you for helping Telerik become one of the leading providers of developer tools, and let me personally invite you to join us for the next chapter with Progress Software. Exciting times are ahead, and I can’t wait to share them with you.
