Hi,

We're using Telerik controls in our Xamarin Forms application. We use the Material Visual package through out the application to ensure everything looks as expected on all platforms. This looks and works great. The only problem is that when using telerik controls like the auto complete view, it is jarring as the visual is just too different (i.e. the placeholder not moving to be smaller / top left).

As the material view is created / maintained by Xamarin - are you looking to ensure that your controls look / act the same where applicable?

Thanks,

Tom

Hello Tom,

Let me get straight to your question: "As the material view is created / maintained by Xamarin - are you looking to ensure that your controls look / act the same where applicable?"
- Currently the Telerik UI for Xamarin controls does not support Material Design. I have logged a feature request on your behalf and you can follow the item on the link below:

https://feedback.telerik.com/xamarin/1416680-add-support-for-material-design
Find your Telerik points updated as a small sign of gratitude for your involvement.

We have this in our radar, however at this point the Material Theme is not scheduled for the upcoming R3 2019 Official Release.

Thanks for getting back to me Didi. It's a shame as due to the look and feel I've had to revert to another control which is disappointing as the Telerik functionality on the control is pretty sweet - but if the face doesn't fit... Hopefully you guys can give this a real look.

Hello Tom,

Thank you for your Feedback.

As a solution I could suggest you try the Telerik UI for Xamarin Blue Theme. For more details on this check the Setting a Theme article from our documentation. Also regarding to the Xamarin Material Visual, could you please elaborate more on the requirements you have? How the Material theme should be applied to the Telerik UI for Xamarin controls? For example, like the Xamarin Material Visual or like the Telerik UI for Xamarin Blue Theme.

Hi Didi,

It's not the colours that are a problem, after all they can be pretty well customised on that front. For us it was the default presentation and interaction. For example, on the auto complete - by default it should look like an entry control (with material); so the place holder is visible but slightly smaller in the top left. When you click on it and start typing, it (animated) goes even smaller and further into the top left. Just so when you've got a form fll of different controls they are all unified. In our form we've got entry controls, date pickers etc and they all look the same as you use an interact with them. As soon as you have a non material entry in there it looks jarring.

As it's a theme backed by Xamarin it's going to be widely used so I'm confident this isn't just a niche use case.

Cheers,

Tom
