Hello Thierry,

The current version of r.a.d.controls is available only for ASP.NET (Web Applications).

However, we are excited to let you know that r.a.d.controls for WinForms is currently in active development phase and will be available within couple of months. Our new product lines (r.a.d.controls for WinForms and telerik Reporting) will be officially announced at Tech Ed (11-16 June in Boston). Please, stop by our booth (#819) for an early preview demo if you are visiting the event.

These are the product highlights we are currently implementing:

• Unique architecture, which follows WPF (Avalon) best practices

• Separated logic from presentation - enables designers to freely customize the UI

• Dynamic CSS-like styling and centralized Themes mechanism for complete control over UI elements

• Unlimited nesting of UI elements with automatic inheritance of parent properties and behaviors

• Property animation effects through Styles/Themes

We will be excited to hear your feedback once we have a beta release. Please, feel free to offer your suggestions and feature requests so that we can add them up to our ever-expanding ToDo list.

I would like to throw in a quick note that all holders of an active telerik r.a.d.controls subscription will get the new Windows Forms and Reporting products at no cost as part of their subscriptions.

Best wishes,
Ivo

Ivo,
I for one can't wait to see what you guys are doing on the WinForms side of things -- I'm eager to get my hands on the beta and start playing with it.  Any idea at all how soon we can expect to get the beta of the WinForms and/or reporting controls?

Thank you for the compliments, Robert :-)

We will provide native support for exporting to PDF and Word in the later versions of our reporting tools. We are currently researching our options whether to build it inhouse or purchase a 3rd party control. Either way, we will offer this feature later on.

BTW, we will have presentations on the WinForms and Reporting tools on TechEd in Boston. If you are planning to visit the exhibition, please step by our booths - I am sure that Ivo will be happy to give you more information.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to go to TechEd this year :-(  I would love to come and see the new technologies, but it just won't work in my schedule.  I do have a question regarding the Reporting suite though -- The demo video looks great, and it looks like its part of a traditional WinForms application.  Will the reporting tools also be available to use in an online web application, either directly integrated, or behind the scenes to generate a report as a PDF or Word Doc for the user to download?  One of my big projects right now deals with a lot of reporting, and having that kind of capability online would be most helpful.

Cheers,
Rob

Hi Robert,

The first version will not be web based, although we are considering this feature for a future version.

telerik Reporting is currently in active development phase and will be officially announced at TechEd 2006 in Boston.

Our current plans are to have a preview at our website (mainly screenshots and a short presentation) in the beginning of July with the first beta available in about 2 months. The official release is currently scheduled for late autumn 2006. These are the key features which we are currently working on:

  • Intuitive API - easy for both WinForms and Web developers
  • Rich set of measurement units (cm, mm, in, px, pt + any combination) for precise report design
  • Extensible report object model - customize or create your own report items
  • Out-of-the-box export to HTML, Excel, PDF, Word, EMF, image (bmp, jpeg, gif)
  • Flexible rendering mechanism - allows you to easily add new output formats (XML, XPS, etc.)
  • Built-in report designers for Visual Studio .Net 2003 and 2005
  • Dynamic CSS-like styling and centralized Themes mechanism for complete control over UI elements
We will be excited to hear your feedback once we have a beta release.

Have a nice day,
Rob

We currently are using all Telerik controls for our web application development and Infragistics controls for Winforms development. We would love to be able to use Telerik controls for Winforms. What plans if any do you have for a Winforms grid, Input controls, Dropdown controls, DatePicker, etc? Do you have plans for any of these controls for use in Winforms?

Thanks

Hi Jeremy,

We are planning to have the following controls in our first release (mid August):
• RibbonBar
• Docking controls and containers
• ToolStrip
• MenuStrip
• StatusStrip
• TabStrip
• Combobox

Next in the schedule are Treeview and DataGrid controls. Once we have a public beta (second half of July) we will be happy to hear feedback on the framework and the specific controls. We will adjust our plans based on the input we get from customers.

Sincerely yours,
Ivo

I just noticed the WinForms beta release has been pushed back to mid-August...and I was just wondering if you folks were going to have any more screenshot/demo type stuff or more detailed information about the controls and their capabilities before the demo comes out.  Not that I'm anxious for more information or anything ;)

Hi Robert,

I completely understand your anxiety. We will do our best to put up more detailed info as well as some new stuff on www.telerik.com/winforms by the end of the month.

Thank you for your patience.

Hello Glenn,

We started going through rounds of internal testing before the first beta release and we will soon be able to offer you more info and the first public bits of the product line (in about two weeks).

Thank you for your patience.

All the best,

Ivo
