I'm trying to access IE 10 in the Win8 Consumer Preview, and cannot connect to IE. When it comes up, I only get the about page, and it never reports that it is being configured for automation.

Do you have a build that works with IE 10 yet?

Hello Bob,

As stated on our System Requirements page, operating systems and browsers in the beta stage are not supported.

Microsoft's Windows 8 official release date has been set for October 2012. Telerik is a certified Microsoft partner and I can assure you that when Microsoft announce the official release we'll be among the first with support for it.

All the best,

Hi,

Was wondering any news on that? Did anybody do any testings on IE 10 and see if the existing framework work?

Thanks!

Hello Jason,

The newly released R2 2012 TestStudio build does in fact support IE 10. Read about this and all the other new features in the What's New section on our site!

What kind of support does WebAii have for the Modern Browser in Win8? I found that if I had a copy of the Modern browser open, and ran a test from Desktop which included the CloseAllBrowsers() method, WebAii could not close the Modern Browser, and the test timed out with multiple retries. I had to manually close the Modern browser instance.

IE 10's connection settings were improperly set at the end of this attempt. I had to manually open Internet Settings and reset the connection to Automatically Detect before any additional runs could work.

Hi Bob,

What is this "Modern Browser" you reference? We know Win 8 comes with IE 10, and we do officially support this as of our recent R2 release that was made public on Sept 27th.

This is the app version of the browser which opens when you click the IE tile on the Start screen. It is different from the browser which you start from the desktop. It is still IE 10, but the available internet options and controls are more limited. However, it has additional functionality, such as supporting Flip Ahead.

Hi Bob,

I checked and found that version is not currently supported by Test Studio. Are you looking to be able to record in this special version or just to be able to playback your tests in it? I have filed a feature request here assuming you only want/need playback ability. I can modify the description if I missed anything.

1. My first request is to fix the CloseAllBrowsers() method to close both the desktop IE 10 instances and all IE 10 App instances. This functionality is broken on Win8 at this time, and errors out.

2. Then, for a future release, provide the same type of testing ability on the IE 10 App as there is for the IE 10 desktop browser. I only use C# written tests. I do not use record/playback. I would like to be able to run all of my IE 10 tests on either browser as I choose.

Hello Bob,

On item 1, Test Studio will only close the browsers that it launched. This is by design. We don't want to go along closing instances of IE that you manually launched and may want to keep open. Is this the behavior you're seeing or are these IE processes that are left from browser instances that Test Studio launched? If you confirm the latter I'll file a bug on this behavior.

On item 2, I believe the existing feature request covers it.

Hello Cody,

Am I Correct in assuming the latest webaii framework released around the same time as the test studio supports WIN8/IE10 env? Thanks!
I don't see any mention in the release notes, ergo the question.

Thanks Cody,

Please open the bug.

I can confirm that if I have several IE 10 sessions open before running WebAii, it will close all those browsers when I issue the CloseAllBrowsers() call. It is because it tries to close all instances, even those that were not initiated by WebAii, that I'm having the problem I've listed where it tries and fails to close the App IE instances as well.

Hello Aakash,

Sorry we didn't clearly state it. Yes your assumption is correct. Because Test Studio is built upon and actively uses our own Telerik Testing Framework it's pretty safe to assume that our framework is compatible with any environment that Test Studio is stated to work in. We also always build and release both products concurrently.

Hello Bob,

Thank you for the report and the details. I have created a new bug on this behavior here. I will let you know what your software developers have to say about this once they've had a chance to investigate what's going on.
