Should Groups Horizontally instead of Vertically

When applying a group to a gird view is there any option to have it show the groups horizontally instead of vertically?

What I mean is this.  If I apply a group to a gridview backed by a data collection I get something like show in the attached picture vert.png.  But what I would like is to sort of transpose it so it looks like horz.png. 

I was able to create what is seen in horz.png but using Column Groups but obviously this is cosmetic - the gird is still based on the original data collection so the values in the cells are just repeating in each group.
