I have a question about the resize behavior of shapes in a diagram.

It appears to me that shapes are getting 'zoomed' or 'stretched' but not actually properly resized.

Please take a look at the attached screenshots.

Also, the borders (strokeWidth stays the same) get stretched and out of proportion, as well as the text (fontSize stays the same).

Is there any way to alter the 'resize' behavior of shapes - because in my opinion it's not actually a resize but rather a strech or zoom and doesn't really look as good as it should.

Hello,

Shape resizing in the diagram is currently done by applying a scale transformation. It affects the content of the shape, as well as borders.
I agree that resizing only the container would make much more sense. The shape template can react to the new size instead of applying a simple transformation.

Please, file a request for this feature on our UserVoice portal if you have minute.
This will help us gauge the overall interest and prioritize.

Hi,

I don't understand why this problem has been ignored for so long.
In many cases, the content of a shape should not be scaled when resizing the shape.
Take a look of many commercial applications such as Visio and Smartdraw, contents and borders are not altered when resizing.
I am currently developing a floor plan type application and this bad behavior is a big problem and I don't know how to solve it.
This issue was mentioned on the UserVoice Portal and was declined in 2015 (!!!).

Have you considered fixing this problem soon?

Regards

Michel

Hi Stefan,

The item indeed was recently declined. The reason for this is due to the fact that the Kendo UI Diagram uses SVG instead of plain HTML. At present, the only option that can be used to resize the shape without scaling it is to introduce an HTML layer. Since the demand does not justify the effort that is needed to implement this (a new version of the diagram), the item was declined.

Kind regards,
