Today I ran the Telerik CP and it told me it was old and get a new one "here".
So, I d/led TelerikControlPanelSetup_2016_3_0616_1.exe and ran it. The CP popped up and logged in.
I then reran from Startup and got the "to old" dialog again.
So, I did an uninstall and ran the Setup file again. The CP ran. Great.
However, there is now no Startup shortcut. (although I can run it by clicking on the setup exe again, blah)

Thank you for opening this support thread.
When not installed the Telerik Control Panel is run as a standalone application. Once a Telerik product is installed through it the Telerik Control Panel is also deployed on the machine and an application shortcut is created. You also could use the update dialog in order to get the latest version of the Telerik Control Panel installed.

Thank you for your feedback!
We are working on improving the update experience. I would suggest to remove the old version of the Telerik Control Panel in first place and then use the latest version of the standalone application to install it. We use our deprecation mechanism very rarely, so a user might fall into that scenario if the Telerik Control Panel was not used in a very long period and it was not able to update itself.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

I have similar problem with TCP. I noticed I get "too old" message every time I run it so I wondered how often it gets old. So I go to Telerik Account, download new one and run so called TelerikControlPanelSetup_2016_3_0616_1.exe. It unpacks, then logs in and I update my packages.
Then I installed another version of VS and wanted to rerun TCP to properly install Telerik extensions there. I got same "too old" message. Then I noticed this "setup" does not install TCP, just unpacks it in TEMP and runs it. Leaving old version located in Program Files directory intact.
So I uninstalled old TCP via Programs and features and run new setup again. Guess what...same result.
What am I supposed to do to have it properly installed. For now, I just copied it from TEMP to some permanent directory and run it from there. But it's not preferred solution.
Thanks
Daniel

Ok, I've made it work. After uninstalling old version and running the setup, it went through standard feature/product installing dialog. Since I needed to remove JustCode from VS as I use ReSharper, I noticed it had automatically included installation of TCP with unsinstallation of JustCode. Hence after it downloaded and (un)installed, I closed this temp instance of TCP and had regularly installed on in Program Files present. It's working, but it's certainly far from intuitive. Would be awesome to have TCP updating automatically itself.
Cheers
Daniel
