Following the quite successful announcement on TechEd 2006 in Boston, I am very happy to reveal that telerik is working on WinForms counterparts of its famous r.a.d.controls suite.

Key Product Highlights:

telerik r.a.d.controls for WinForms is a brand new experience for Windows Forms development. Built upon a unique architecture, telerik r.a.d.controls for Windows Forms offers advanced WPF-like UI capabilities to .NET developers today:

  • Unique architecture, which follows WPF (Avalon) best practices
  • Separated logic from presentation - enables designers to freely customize the UI
  • Dynamic CSS-like styling and centralized Themes mechanism for complete control over UI elements
  • Unlimited nesting of UI elements with automatic inheritance of parent properties and behaviors
  • Property animation effects through Styles/Themes

Controls included:

  • RibbonBar
  • Docking controls and containers
  • ToolStrip
  • MenuStrip
  • StatusStrip (EDIT: As of June 2007 this control is still not available in the WinForms suite)
  • TabStrip
  • Combobox
  • Grid expected next year

Watch a demo, learn more and sign up for the Beta program at http://www.telerik.com/winforms

The first telerik WinForms official release is scheduled for End of September, 2006.

As always, your feedback is welcome!

Hi, I thought it is already the middle of August, and tried to find the Winforms beta download in your site but didn't, did I miss it or it isn't up yet?

Hi Vahagn,

Unfortunately, the beta release is not up yet. We are doing our best to push as much functionality as possible so that we can get valuable feedback from beta testers and that is why we will need another one or two weeks to polish the beta release. We also want to fix as many bugs as possible in our internal tests so that we do not receive the same reports from the community once people start playing with the beta.

Please, accept our sincere apologies for the delayed beta release. Once the bits are out we will have announcements in a Newsletter, Website, Beta Forums, Rss feed, etc -- I am sure you will not miss them.

Thank you for your patience and we are looking forward to your feedback once we have the beta out.

Kind regards,
Ivo

Thanks for the update Ivo, I'm sure a great many subscribers are really excited about this release.

Something we subscribers should remember, the middle of the month is not a specific day, just a range of days. It could be a week before, could be a week later.

Let also say thanks to the whole Telerik team for creating some of the best software components I've ever had the pleaseure to work with.

Hello guys,

This is a quick update on our progress with WinForms suite.

The official release has been moved back to the end of September. I am not sure why this information has not been presented here previously, as we updated the official WinForms product page about two weeks ago for the August Newsletter. Please, accept our apologies for not informing you about this decision on time.

The beta has been pushed back another 10 to 14 days from today. Actually, yesterday we decided to offer the first beta (a CTP) on September 11th. Afterwards we will be supplying a CTP each week, which will offer new features and fixes to reported bugs. Just in this case, the CTPs will replace our current practice of offering two betas before the official version.

If the WinForms beta goes well, we will probably be able to meet the new official deadline.

Our developers are working overtime to meet the new deadlines, as well as your expectations, and I think the slight release delay will be worth the wait.

Do not hesitate to post your thoughts or questions.

Sincerely,
Rob

Thanks for the update Rob...I've got no doubt you guys will deliver a top-notch product, and the delay will be well worth it.  We're all software guys here, so we understand the pressure of a release date :-)

Ok I was also looking for winform suit beta. We are right now evaluating Infragistic and Telrik suite. We need something which can be used with winforms and webforms both. While the Infragistic already have a suite with both the set of components, telerik is just releasing beta. Since its already september, I will better wait since I believe that beta can be out in a few days and I can start evaluating and even coding with it and when it releases I can buy license if we decide to go with telerik.

I hope CTP release deadline of 11th still holds :-)

Cheers,

Sachin

Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you know that the first release of the WinForms suite will be tomorrow. We skipped the release today for obvious reasons.

Hi, judging from the last post on this thread the 1st ctp for winForms suit should have been up on september 12th. It either hasn't been released yet or it has but I cant find the link to download it. Which of these assumptions is true?

Hello Vahagn,

Thank you for your interest in the WinForms suite.

The first CTP beta is currently in private testing and is available to selected customers only, yourself included. Please, locate the Private CTP info post (one level up from this post) and you will get the needed details.

Your feedback will be much appreciated.

Rob,

What is the status on the WinForms controls as far as an official release goes? I just want to get clarification from telerik so I can accurately represent telerik's timeline in my interactions with the community in the forums.

Thanks~

Hello guys,

We are pleased to announce the first official CTP of our WinForms controls. It can be found in your Client.net account, under r.a.d.controls for WinForms.

We have also added a new WinForms product section on our site related to the new suite. Feel free to review it at your leisure.

What's new new in this CTP are some bug fixes, major performance improvements and a new docking mechanism to fix some performance and behaviour issues. Additionally, the new installer installs the controls in GAC.

Give it a spin and let us know of your thoughts.

Kind regards,

I see "r.a.d.controls for WinForms" only under "My Free Trials"

Is this the correct place?  Or should it be under "My Licenses" and it's just not on my account? :)

Jeff,

If you have an active Developer Subscription for the r.a.d.controls you should see a new WinForms section on your My Licenses page. So, on the My Licenses page you should now see two "top level" sections: one for ASP.NET and one for WinForms.

If you have an active subscription and do not see this tab, you may need to contact telerik to make sure your license is correctly configured in their system.

Thanks~

Hi Jeff,

You are added as a license developer to your company's purchase. In order to see the dev version of r.a.d.controls for WinForms in your account, please ask the purchase holder to add you as a license developer and all will be fine.

We will consider changing our system to do this automatically.

Hello guys,

I am honored to announce the first official version of r.a.d.controls for WinForms, Q3 2006. Following your feedback from the CTPs, as well as the recent survey, we were able to fix several major bugs, considerably improve the docking mechanism, add a few new examples and themes, and even add 3 new controls to the suite - r.a.d.ListBox, r.a.d.ShapedForm, and r.a.d.SplitButton.

You can find the official release in your Client.Net accounts, under My Licenses.

Enjoy!

Yours,
