Hello,
Read right here in the forums that the included push-notifications plugin currently works only when app is open. Is this true? If so, can other push-notifications services be implemented ( via the custom plugin tool)?
Thank you!

Hello Alfredo,
The version of the PushPlugin we ship is somewhat outdated, as the plugin itself is being actively developed. However, the plugin is plugman-compatible so you can add the latest version from here.
Most of the kinks in the older versions should be ironed out. In any case, I encourage you to test it out and see if it works for you. Of course, you can always try the Pushwoosh plugin as well.

Yavor,
I'm somewhat new to push notifications and need a little more guidance about this. I see the options for push notifications split into two. One way would be use the PushPlugin which would be an easy option from the integration side of things, however it still required a web app to actually send the messages right?
On the other hand there are integrated solutions as Pushwoosh and Urban Airship, etc.
Can PushPlugin be integrated to a commercial service to send/manage the messages?
Thank you!

Well, think found an answer by myself. The PushPlugin can be added as a custom plugin to Icenium, then follow this link to integrate it to a commercial service as Pushwoosh. This way you have the best of both worlds, a plugman compatible plugin and a solution for sending/managing your push messages already working.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Hello Alfredo,
Apple and Google both provide an infrastructure that they control which facilitates delivery of push notifications. Services such as Pushwoosh and Urban Airship can abstract and automate sending notifications, but in the end they tap into that same infrastructure. All Cordova push plugins implement pretty much the same set of OS-specific APIs that allow them to receive push notifications. This means that, sure, you should be able to use the PushPlugin with Pushwoosh and Urban Airship backends, but it'll be a bit more of a hassle to perform device registration and other setup tasks, not to mention handling vendor-specific quirks.
However, I have some very good news - a couple of days ago we released a new feature to Icenium Everlive: the ability to send push notifications. The Icenium Everlive JavaScript SDK is tailored to work with Cordova and the PushPlugin and will automate registration on all platforms. Please take a look at the announcement blog post and check out the sample app inside. You can also check out this blog post, which delves into the technical details and implementation of push notifications.
I'll be happy to help you set up push notifications in Icenium Everlive should you choose to do so. But if you have more questions about the PushPlugin and ways to integrate it with 3rd-party services, please feel free to file an issue on the plugin's GitHub Issues page.

Haven't tried yet. I'm going to try the Everlive alternative first and then see from there if there's need to go with a third-party service.
Cheers!

Ok. I follow the instructions from your link and integrate Pushwoosh in Icenium seems to be very easy , but I can't see if it works on a real devices. I will also try Everlive , it looks easy too.

Hello Thomas,
There are no limitations for the number of devices you would push notifications to.
