All,

I just purchased a Developer Edition license, and when I am using https with the REST api, I am getting the following message

"Your current license does not support service calls over HTTPs".

Is this an issue with timing where my account hasn't been fully upgraded yet, or is https only supported with the native and JS SDKs? I can't find anything in the documentation regarding http vs. https, and the detailed features page shows SSL/https supported in the developer edition.

Any and all help appreciated...

Thanks,
Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Unfortunately, service calls over HTTPS are not included in Telerik Platform Developer Edition. You can check the detailed comparison between the different editions here - the name of the feature is 'API SSL'.

Would you please let us know on which page you have seen that respective feature is included in the Developer Edition?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Dimo

Hi Dimo,

Thanks for your reply.

The page in question is the Detailed Features section of the pricing page at https://www.telerik.com/purchase/platform. At the top it says Platform Core SSL Encryption is supported, then below under Connect it says API SSL is not supported.

I would strongly suggest you take the following to your marketing people and have a sit-down with them to go over the next part. First, let me say that I am thoroughly confused as to how one part of the same service level would support SSL and another wouldn't. Second, to pay $119/month for the privilege of using SSL is exorbitant when a single SSL certificate is not that expensive. Last, in the current climate of big hacks being announced every day, how does Telerik offer a product that provides protection for data at rest but does not provide at least base level protection for data in transit?

I assume I have lost my monthly payment. I'll eat it, shut down my account, and head on over to another BaaS that at least takes the basics seriously.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for your honest feedback and sharing your concerns. I think that you have raised some valid points and they are already sent to the relevant people. Note is taken on the pricing page discrepancy too.

I believe that a product specialist already contacted you with some options about the available subscription tiers for Telerik Platform. Please discuss them with him or let us know in this thread should you have further questions or considerations.

Hi,

I absolutely have to agree with Bruce here, and am embarrassed now to have recommended the Telerik Platform to both my employer and prospective clients who need a solution for push notifications.

I have just spent time making the Nativescript push-plugin backwards compatible for iOS 8-9 and can't believe that after that I'm now running in to a licensing error after we have purchased the developer account just yesterday.  My time would be better spent integrating push notifications through another backend, so I will as our account rep to refund our subscription and will recommend to our client that the Telerik Platform solution is not for them.

Very disappointing!  You should really draw more attention to this in your information.

Hello Thomas,

Thanks for contacting us and sharing your honest feedback. Indeed, the information on the comparison page is misleading in certain sense and I can clearly understand your disappointment and frustration with this.

I am sorry that the purchase page is not yet edited after the previous customer feedback. I am already working with the respective teams to adjust the situation that occurred as it doesn’t benefit neither the company, nor our customers. They confirmed that the licensing quotas and purchase page will be aligned correctly and I will do my best to ensure this will be completed.

Allow me to offer our sincere apologies for the confusion and any caused inconvenience.

Additionally, your account representative should have already contacted you with further possible solutions.

Let me know should you have further considerations.

Regards,
Anton Dobrev

Hi Anton,

It's great to see that the product info has been updated and the basic plan now supports HTTPS for the API calls too. Bruce was right that these days it's a must. I'm sure there are plenty of other features that will help you up-sell customers as they grow.

This was a frustrating situation and in fact we had no choice but to migrate our current project to use another backend solution, but I'm happy that progress has been made and I'm sure that this will help prevent problems in the future.
