Grid with Hierarchy - Newbie Question

Hello!

Please forgive my newbie question!  There's so much information out there, I just don't know how to formulate my question exactly to find the right example.

I'd like to build a grid with a hierarchy, where the detail data would have the same columns as the master.  What I'd like to avoid is having a separate grid show up in place of detail.  I'd like the parent grid to add rows when detail is unfolded, or something similar to that, but still appear as one grid.  Is it possible?  Could you point me towards an example?

Could you maybe elaborate more on why you need expanding columns with the same columns as the grid? I mean, if they have the same columns why are they not in the grid at the start?

What I want to build is a table that shows something like a list of emails, with columns like name, subject, status, and the threads that belong together would unfold under the initial email.  The columns of the child items would be the same as in the parent.

Hello Sergey,

This behavior is not supported out of the box, however you can achieve similar behavior using a custom solution, as demonstrated here.
