We are trying to determine how to bundle a large chunk (around 100 MB) of assets with our application we are building within Icenium.

Google Play Store allows "expansion files" which can contain assets for applications over 50 MB.

Has anyone used expansion packs with Icenium in the past?

Does the Icenium deployment process to the Google Play Store support these expansion files?  Would there be anything preventing us from adding expansion files to our deployed Icenium app outside of the Icenium IDE, even if Icenium does not support this feature out-of-the-box?

Hi Candace,

To publish your application, you need a valid Google Play certificate. If you do not have one, you can create it from within Icenium. For more information how to create a code signing identity for Android, see Configuring Code Signing for Android Apps. Make sure that your Google Play certificate is selected and that the expiration date is after October 22, 2033.

When the building process is complete, the application is ready to be published. You can download the APK file and upload it to the Google Play Developer Console. Icenium does not offer deployment to Google Play, we only build your application so you can download it and the upload process is up to you, so you can proceed with that process as explained in the Google Play publish documentation.

Dear Telerik support,

in response to Candace, Steve explained how publishing an app works with AppBuilder.

However, since my APK is > 50MB, I dont understand how I could publish it. Can I somehow create smaller sized APK? Or already at a build point, pick what my expansion files are, and not include them in APK?

Because only thing I can get from AppBuilder right now is APK file, and it is too big.

Thanks,
Filip

Hello Filip,

As mentioned in my previous reply, AppBuilder is not involved in any way with handling expansion files for your application. The whole process is explained in details in the Google Play documentation here: APK Expansion Files. Check the Development checklist section for everything you need to do.

Steve
