Hi,

On my new PC, Telerik control panel doesn't install (fresh download). It crashes without displaying any UI and logs the folliwng error in Event Log:

Application: ProgressControlPanel.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: System.InvalidOperationException
   at Telerik.CommonInstaller.DataAccess.ProductVersionServiceWrapper.get_Instance()
   at Telerik.CommonInstaller.Detection.Helpers.VisualStudioDetector.InitializeVisualStudioWrappers()
   at Telerik.CommonInstaller.Detection.Helpers.VisualStudioDetector..ctor()
   at Telerik.CommonInstaller.Detection.Helpers.VisualStudioDetector.get_Instance()
   at Telerik.CommonInstaller.Detection.InstallationDetector..ctor(Telerik.CommonInstaller.SystemWrappers.Registry.Interfaces.IRegistryOperator, Telerik.CommonInstaller.SystemWrappers.FileSystem.IFileSystemOperator, Telerik.CommonInstaller.MsiWrappers.WindowsInstaller.IWindowsInstallerDetector, Telerik.CommonInstaller.Detection.Helpers.GacSearcher, Telerik.CommonInstaller.Detection.Helpers.IVersionOperator)
   at Telerik.CommonInstaller.Detection.InstallationDetector..ctor()
   at Telerik.CommonInstaller.ControlPanel.Program.GetApplicationFilePath()
   at Telerik.CommonInstaller.ControlPanel.Program.TryLaunchInstalledApplication()
   at Telerik.CommonInstaller.ControlPanel.Program.Main()

Is there any workaround for this?

Nick

Hello Nick,

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you for the error information. However, the error stack trace does not reveal the problem and what I would suggest in this case is to use the attached .msi installer of the latest Progress Control Panel to install it and check if this resolve the problem on your side.

Looking forward to your response.

The MSI installer behaves the same. It quits immediately and doesn't install anything.

Hi Nick,

In this case I would ask you to generate installation log when running the .msi installer, please follow these steps:
  1. Open command prompt
  2. Execute the following command - msiexec /i [msi-installer-path]\[installer-name.msi] /L*V %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\[log-file-name].log (This will start the .msi installer  again and create a .log file on your Desktop)
  3. Proceed and reproduce the issue

Then get back to us and attach the .log file that was created on you Desktop.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Just wanted to add that I had a similar fault when using the installer: ProgressControlPanelSetupA_2019_3_0705_1.exe, same stack trace etc.

Using the attached MSI to install the control panel worked OK though.
