Changing marker size in the legend

I was able to change the size of the font within the legend. The problem now becomes that the size difference between the marker and the markers text are very disproportionate to each other. I've done a lot of searching and am not able to increase the size of the marker its self by any fixes I've seen. Can you assist?

 You can use the legend.item.visual property to draw the marker as you like:
