Hi,

I was trying to update my installed Telerik products using "Progress Control Panel for Windows" yesterday. But for some reason it never finished updating. It downloaded everything but the progress bar said uninstalling but it never finished (after hours). So I closed the application and tried to uninstall each component one by one. First through the Progress Control Panel and then through Windows Programs Add & Remove. Some of the products were uninstalled but some hasn't. I can't seem to install a newer version either. It hangs up as well.

Is there a way I can uninstall everything and install it fresh? I am frustrated and this is not allowing me to finish my work which is on a deadline.

Please kindly assist ASAP. I am a paid subscribed customer but since this is not product specific, I don't know where to raise the Support Ticket for this issue.

Kind Regards,

JB

Hi,

We are really sorry for the inconvenience.

It seems that you have encountered an installation problem that have been introduced with the latest update of Visual Studio 2017 - version 15.5.5. I will give you troubleshooting steps assuming this is the case on your side (please let me know if that is not true). Basically you have to remove the old versions and perform new installations without the Visual Studio 2107 integration feature (later on you can install the Visual Studio 2017 extensions manually). Here are the exact steps:

  1. Uninstall all Progress products using the Microsoft installation troubleshooting tool.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Perform "fresh" installations of the latest Progress products. Make sure the Visual Studio 2017 feature is NOT selected.
  4. Launch Visual Studio 2017.
  5. Launch the Extensions and Updates tool (Tools | Extensions and Updates...).
  6. Click on Online.
  7. Search for "telerik"  and find the desired extension (for example Telerik ASP.NET MVC VSExtensions).
  8. Close Visual Studio 2017 and wait. VSIXInstaller will be launched. Use it to proceed with the installation of the desired extension.

You can find more about the installation problem in the Visual Studio Developer Community.

Please let me know if the problem is resolved.

Hi Vesko,

You are absolutely correct in your assumption. I do have 15.5.5 and that is what caused this problem. I installed without the VS 2017 integration and it installed without a hitch.

However, uninstalling is another matter. I don't know if it's due to the prior uninstall incompletions I had as I mentioned in my original post. But the Microsoft Installation Troubleshooting Tool didn't complete either. It removed the programs from the list. I am assuming it removed the registry entries as well although I can't be sure of that. I did see the folders remain and the troubleshooting tool was running for an hour without completing until I cancelled it. I manually deleted the folders but I don't know where else folders would have been left behind.

When I started Progress Installer again, it didn't detect any existing Telerik Products so hopefully whatever files were left behind got overwritten when installed again. Any 2017 version folders I didn't see would be remaining.

Thank you for your help. Atleast I have a working Visual Studio and Telerik components now.

Hopefully before next update, Visual Studio will fix this issue.

Kind Regards,

JB
