Hi Valio;

Any new updates on the status of NS? Also, you had mentioned in the next update, the AppBuilder will provide Mobile virtual machine to run against rather on the physical machine. Could you please bring us up to date on the development timeline?

Thanks!
..Ben

Hey Ben,

A new version is coming next week as scheduled. The highlights of the release are as promised on the roadmap:

1. AppBuilder CLI support for NativeScript
2. Native Emulators support
3. Research and spike for UI layer
4. (Android-only) on device debugging

I'm preparing a more detailed blog post on these features - stay tuned!

Best,
Valio

Valio, thanks for prompt reply;

Looking forward to the update and also, please provide links to docs and resources that give a good description on
how an app should be created in this framework,
how are pages created,
how does one navigate from page to page,
how could one do validation on the client side and communicate with user,
what's the best strategy for getting/setting data with a backend service,

I think if you provide a Hands-on lab like what Microsoft offers in their Asp.Net pages, would get everyone on the track much faster, especially when the product is so new.

Thanks!

Hi Ben,

these are nice suggestions, but you know we are still not there yet. We do not have the UI stack which includes pages and the navigation framework implementations. You will begin to see the first UI bits in September and I'll make sure to provide links to documentation and how-tos when they are available.

Valio

Hi Valentin,

the "next week" is ending this weekend ;-)
Can we expect something new in the next days?

Thank you

Hey Volker,

we decided to postpone a little bit the release because most of the things we implemented were not visible for the end developers. We did mainly improvements in the core infrastructure and modules in the past month....

If you fan of the CLI tools you will find interesting that we now have the first version of the CLI tools for NativeScript which you can use to create projects and run the applications in a separate IDE. You can read more info about it in this documentation article - http://docs.telerik.com/platform/appbuilder/nativescript/getting-started-ns/get-started-cli

I'll create a separate topic for this info now, so that everyone is informed.

Best,
Valio

Hey Ben,

this "the AppBuilder will provide Mobile virtual machine to run against rather on the physical machine", doesn't ring a bell :). I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean that we will support the native android and ios emulators then it is true. We released this feature for hybrid applications, but it will take us more time to do it for NativeScript, so postponed it for the next release.

Let me know if this is what you meant.

Yes, the next release is what I meant. Be able to test app against Android and iOS emulator.
Thanks~

Hey Valio;

I was just going through the new roadmap carefully. One thing that is very clear, is that your vision and team's vision has become much more mature in such short time. This is very encouraging to see that the team knows about these features ahead of time, while building the base platform. I'm very happy to see this maturity at such early stage.

Ultimately, V1 will have a nice rich offering for the first release. I'll do more digging this weekend, but overall, it feels a rich system to go into this crowded marked. This has always been my worry that, NS is not recognized or distinguished when it enters into this crowded market. But now, I feel it looks and feels a well rounded package.

Thanks Ben - yes we have a clear vision for v1 and I'm very glad to hear that this is visible from outside the engineering team also!

I'll ask anyone who want to see a specific scenario/feature implemented as part of this roadmap to reach out to me. I'll be happy to discuss it - the roadmap is still open, and there is place for changes for sure - we will validate any feature you requested.

Greetings,
Valio
