Hello Matthew,

Can you provide some more information on this? If I understand correctly, you have a Scheduling server registered on XP machine and when you try to register an execution server on another XP machine it works. But if you try to register an execution server on Windows 7 machine it doesn't work. Please confirm that!

What is the error you are receiving when trying to connect? Is it something like this(see screenshot)?
Please send me some screenshots demonstrating your issue in order to properly troubleshoot.

Meanwhile, check this KB article on "Resolving some common scheduling issues".

I hope to here from you soon!

Actually, I have a scheduling server on Windows 7 and the execution server on Windows Xp. I can register the Windows XP machine, but cannot successfully send runs. The URL connection times out when browsed to and the log gives me the error in the screen shot. When using two xp machines, I do not run into the same problem, I am able to view the URL on either machine and send test runs.

The machine with the execution client is successfully registered and can browse to server:8009/TestStudio/SchedulingService.

The machine with the scheduling server cannot successfully view executuion:8009/TestStudio/SchedulingService despite firewall exceptions and logging into the service directly.

Hello Matthew,

I was able to reproduce your problem. If I activate the firewall protection on my execution machine I'm getting exactly the same "Open Connection to Client Machine Error". So please turn off the firewall on the client machine and try executing your test again.

Please let me know if it works or if you need further assistance!

Kind regards,

Unfortunately, I am in a group policy controlled environment and cannot totally disable the windows firewalls. I have already created in and outbound exceptions for w7 on port 8009 and exception on port 8009 for windows xp. This allows the machine to register, but nothing more.

Hello Matthew,

Are you still receiving "Open Connection to Client Machine Error"? You have to do the same on your execution machine. You have to create an inbound rule for port: 8009. I have attached a video demonstrating how to do that.

If you are still unable to execute your tests. Please send me the logs from both machines for further investigation.

Best wishes,

My windows 7 machine is the scheduling server with inbound and outbound exceptions for port 8009 created. The log is attcahed here.

My windos Xp machine is the execution server with an exception created for port 8009 (xp does not distinguish for inbound and outbound). While I do not have the log, there are no entries afte registering the machine.

Hello Matthew,

Can you confirm that the both machines are in same Domain? When you were using two xp machines were you able to execute your test lists?

We are currently trying to reproduce this problem, but it will take as some time to create a testing environment(virtual xp machine) and testing all different possible combinations?

I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused!

Yes, both machines are in the same domain.

When run on two xp machines, I have been able to schedule and execute tests.

Both machines have windows firewall enabled with port exceptions on port 8009.

XP execution machine is able to register on the Windows 7 scheduling server.

Hello Matthew,.

We were able to reproduce this problem with our newly created XP testing environment. You need to add one more exception to the firewall on the Execution machine(XP VM) in order to make it work.
1. Navigate to "Windows Firewall -> Exceptions -> Add Program".
2. Add the ArtOfTest.Runner.exe from the "C:\Program Files\Telerik\Test Studio 2011.1\Bin" folder.
3. Restart the Scheduling service
4. Restart the execution server

Also, please upgrade to our latest internal release on both machines. You can download it from your Telerik account(see screenshot). This new release includes fixes for some scheduling problems that might be related to your issue too.

Hope to here from you soon!

All the best,
