hi
I'm using radmap control in my silverlight 4 application.
I am not able to create a shapefile that radmap can read without problems.
My application is based of the hotel sample (http://demos.telerik.com/silverlight/ # Map / Hotel).
My client sells land and would like information about on each area sold, reserved or free.
I'm using the MapWindows GIS and FGIS application to build the shapefiles.
which tool should I use to create the shapefiles to run with the RADMap control ?

tks,

Hello Yale,

As I know that few our clients use MapWindows GIS to create shape files with success. You just need to save files using projection which is supported currently by RadMap (spherical Mercator with location set as latitude/longitude in degrees).

I'm sorry, we aren'e experienced in this particular tool. But I've found projection in this tool which seems like one is used by RadMap:

Category: Geographic Coordinate Systems
Group: World
Name: WGS 1984

Hi,

I am looking to do the exact same thing.  If you had success, what steps did you take to get your shapefiles?  Can I see a sample of your Silverlight map?

Thanks,
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,

Unfortunately we aren't experienced in this particular tool. I suppose that you can find some additional information on their official site at the http://www.mapwindow.org/

As a GIS professional I'd say hands down that the most popular software used to create shapefiles would be ESRI's ArcMap software. You can sign-up for a free trial license but you'll have to subscribe to the EDN Dev license which starts at $1500.  I've had over a decade of experience with ESRI software both client and server and with the popularity explosion of web mapping it's been interesting watching the competition in the market take a 'GIS' or 'non-GIS' focus.  With the integration of shapefiles and a fairly new control for Telerik it would be very interesting to see how robust they build out the mapping capabilities.

I'm looking foward to integrating the RadMap control once I move from VS2008 to 2010 and Silverlight 4.

Thanks,
Todd
