Greetings!
We are still experiencing some problems with the software registration. Today we opened an existing aii test and when the software
asked us to register it, we did, by using the appropriate key. Everything seemed fine.
However, about an hour later, when we tried to edit the same test, using the same user, on the same virtual machine, the testing
software asked to be registered again, which is very strange. We didn't change anything with the host or the virtual machine.
What could be causing the software to request the activation again?
Is there some kind of diagnostic information you require from us?
Can you please clear the registration slot?
Thank you very much for your attention,
André Silva.

Greetings!
Yes, the virtual machine is a VMware machine.
The VM operating system is Windows Server Enterprise 2008, with service pack 1 (32 bit).
The host OS is Windows Server 2003, standard edition.
Thank you for your attention,
André Silva.

Hi Andre,
Thanks for the reply.
If you can please let us know what your stable WebUI configuration was on your previous VMWare before moving to Server 2008 and any other configuration changes you have made besides the ones mentioned in your previous post.
I am looking to get a repro going, so if you can get back to us with the above and any other info that might help us get the problem you are seeing.
At this point, it might not be useful to clear an activation slot as there is a good chance you will see the activation screen again at this point. Sorry about the inconvience, and we appreciate your help and patience with this.
Best wishes,

Greetings!
There has been essentially 3 stages in the life of this VM.
Stage 1:
The VM was installed with Windows Server Enterprise 2008, Sharepoint 2007 and other development tools.
In this VM we installed an evaluation version of WebUI Test Studio (beta) where we performed lots of tests.
The host computer was running Windows Vista, at the time. After evaluating, we purchased the current license and installed
the final version in the VM, and everything was fine.
Stage 2:
We moved the VM to the current host, which is running Windows Server 2003 standard edition and had to register the software again.
This was the first time we posted a message requesting that you clear the registration slot. There was no changes to the configuration
of the VM, only the host changed.
Stage 3:
The VM remained with the same host, and we didn't change anything with the host. However, we gave the VM a fixed IP address which was
more convenient for us, and changed the network settings of the VM from NAT to Bridged. Nothing else was changed in the VM.
The software requested a registration again. Were these changes enough to require a new registration?
Current stage:
A couple of days ago, we stabilized the VM configuration, by creating a new user (testDeveloper) in the VM,
giving it administrator privileges and after that, edited an existing aii test, therefore registering the software again.
Everything seemed fine, but about an hour later when the same user tried to edit the same test, the software asked to be registered again.
This time, as far as I know, there were no changes to the host or the VM after the last software registration, so it seems a bit strange that
WebUI Test Studio is asking for registration again.
Do you think we should uninstall/reinstall the software on the VM and register it again after you clear the slot?
Is there some other information you require from us?
Thank you for your attention,
André Silva.

Hello again Andre,
Thanks for the complete time line, I was able repro the latest stage re-activation request. Do you have UAC enabled? If so, please disable UAC, then after Windows restart try the other testDeveloper/admin account again to see if WebUI detects the activation with a new test project and WebAii test.
If the activation is not detected in the testDeveloper account, if you could please try creating another admin account after UAC is disabled and see if WebUI detects the actiavtion with a new test project and WebAii test.
At the very least, WebUI should also still be activated and usable on the original Admin account you installed WebUI with. Please reply if the above does not work or if UAC is actually disabled.

Greetings!
I have checked the virtual machine settings and the UAC (User Account Control) is turned off.
We had previously turned it off according to your video instructions.
We also tried to edit an existing aii test with both the testDeveloper account and the original Admin account we installed WebUI with,
but both times the software asked to be registered again.
Is there something else you want us to test?
Thank you for your attention,
André Silva.

Hi again Andre,
Ok, I'll continue working on this with the setup I have. Is the guest OS acting as a server to the Internet? If possible, could you please disable all firewalls and see if at least the install Admin account still requests a reactivation?
If the problem still exists, could you uninstall WebUI, verifiy UAC is disabled , then add any other user accounts that will use WebUI.
Then delete the %InstallDir%/Telerik/WebUI Test Studio Q2 2009 folder and verifiy that all keys in registry under Local Machine -> Software -> ArtOfTest are deleted.
After this, please try another installation and activation.
And could you clear up the Stage 3 setup for me? I could not force a new activation request when changing configuration. Here is what I did:
- In VMWare: Changed the network adapter to 'Bridged: Connected directly to the physical network' and checked 'Replicate physical network connection state'
- Changed to a static IP addres in the Windows Server 2008 guest OS
I also tried changing the network adapter to 'Custom: Specific virtual network -> VMnet0 (default Bridged)'
but that did not work either.
Kind regards,
Nelson

>Is the guest OS acting as a server to the Internet? If possible, could you please disable all firewalls

The guest OS is being used only to run and to develop tests. The Admin account is used to run the tests remotely
using the nunit console and the testDeveloper account is used for test development (recording and customizing the code).
I have checked the firewall and it is not turned on in the guest OS.
>And could you clear up the Stage 3 setup for me?
Certainly. For stage 3 we only changed the network settings in VMware Player (changed them from NAT to Bridged)
by using the vmware interface (see attached screenshot) and gave the VM a fixed IP.
We don't know if these changes were the reason that the software asked to be registered again,
we only know these were the only changes done to the VM at this time.
We will try uninstalling WebUI, perform all the actions you suggest and re-register the software again.
Is the registration slot clear? May we try to register again?
If we encounter any problems, we will let you know.
Thank you for your attention,
André Silva.

Hi again Andre,
Thanks for the update, I'll continue trying this repro based on your extra info. Also, was an error message thrown at any point after any of the activations? Or was there just a successful activation message afterwards?
There should be a slot available, and if you can please try all of the things I posted in my last reply and try the 'Scenario 3: Configure User Account Control' in this link before attempting another activation.
Sincerely yours,
Nelson

Greetings!
We have performed all the actions you have suggested and there seems to be no problem for now.
The software is registered and working properly.
If we encounter any more problems regarding software registration, we will let you know.
Thank you very much for your attention,
André Silva.
