The update wizard is not found under Telerik VS extensions menu item. It was there at one point now it is not.

I have removed the Telerik VS package in VS2010 professional and reinstalled it the Update Wizard is still missing.
I have removed all but the current telerik version that my application is referencing Q3 2011 and the updated version (Latest) and still the Update Wizard is not there.

Do I need to reinstall VS, or is there an option in VS that removes the update wizard.

Thanks
Cliff

Hello,

You don't need to reinstall Visual Studio.

Can you open the Visual Studio Extension Manager (found under the Tools menu) and check what Telerik VSExtensions do you see. Do you find the 'Telerik Silverlight VSExtensions' extension? If no you can use the Online Gallery tab in the Extension manager to download and install it.

You should keep in mind that the Upgrade Wizard is located under the RadControls for Silverlight sub menu - http://www.telerik.com/help/silverlight/radcontrols-for-silverlight-vs-extensions-overview.html.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the Response.

The VSExtensions installed are for 2012.01.215.0. I am running VS 2010 professional

When I open the Telerik menu I see
     RadControls for Silverlight and
     VS Extensions Options
When I open Telerik Menu / RadControls for Silverlight I only see
     Create New Telerik Project and
     Launch Toolbox Converter.
     About

Under Visual Studio Extension Manager I have removed the Telerik Silverlight VS Extensions. and reinstalled them multiple times.
I have attempted using the Tools / Customize / Commands MenuBar Telerik to add in the command for convert project but it would not become enabled in the telerik menu so I deleted it.

Under Extension Manager / Installed Extensions there are also Telerik User Settings VS Extensions and Telerik.CommonPackage neither let me disable or uninstall due to the buttons being disabled.

I have removed and reinstalled the previous versions of Telerik for q4 2011, q4 update 2011 and q1 2012 multiple times from a downloaded msi package from Telerik, all of which do not change the VS Telerik menu to allow me to upgrade current project.

Any assistance would be greately appreciated.

Hello Cliff,

The Upgrade Wizard menu option is only available when you have solution with at least one Telerik project in it loaded. Is it possible that you haven't loaded any solution or that the solution you have loaded doesn't have any Telerik enabled projects?

Hi Petar
Yes the solution has Telerik controls.
It is a lightswitch solution (Silverlight) where I have added RadScheduleview, and RadRichText.

My thoughts are that there may be a Telerik vsextension control file that is corrupted or something that prevents this from showing. Also is the other behavior mentioned below standard is this another clue?
"Under Extension Manager / Installed Extensions there are also Telerik User Settings VS Extensions and Telerik.CommonPackage neither let me disable or uninstall due to the buttons being disabled."

Thanks for working with me.

Hi Cliff,

The Telerik User Settings VS Extensions and Telerik.CommonPackage shouldn't bother you. These VS packages are required by the Telerik Silverlight VSExtensions and are actually part of it.

As I said in my previous answer the Upgrade wizard is available only for Telerik enabled projects. Let me clarify what this means - one project is Telerik enabled if it has a reference to the main Telerik assembly. For Silverlight the main Telerik assembly (it is required by the other Telerik assemblies) is Telerik.Windows.Controls. Thus if you want to launch the Upgrade Wizard you should add reference to the Telerik.Windows.Controls assembly to your project.

I hope this solves the issue on your side.

I'm also facing problems with Silverlight Teleriks extensions since a couple of months.

I have unistalled all older versions and currently only have installed SLV5 Q1 2012 SP1 release. I have tried to unistall 'Telerik Silverlight VSExtensions' and reinstall them again from 'Extensions manager" without success. It looks like there's a conflict with previous versions but I'm not able to solve it, as I said I have unistalled all previous versions and reinstall the latest one. Every time I try to configure telerik dlls, create a new RadSilverlight App or just trying to "Launch Toolbox Configurator" I receive an error message. I'm attaching an screen capture of this error message.

Hello Dani,

Thank you for the screenshot. What I see in it is that the conflict comes from the Telerik MVC VSExtensions which version is 2011.3.1115.0 which is not our latest. Can you update your Telerik MVC VSExtensions to latest version using the Extension Manager?

I think this should resolve the issue on your side.

The project I am working on has telerik controls (Telerik.Windows.Controls) in the reference section.
Any other requirements for the menu item to show?

Hi Cliff,

A Telerik upgrade requirement for the Silverlight project is to be of either Silverlight Class Library or Application type and have a Telerik.Windows.Controls assembly reference.

Can you please verify whether on a new solution with a newly created Telerik Silverlight Application an upgrade option is shown?

Hope we get the issue resolved soon.

I created a new solution and added several telerik controls.
The telerik menu is as follows:
Telerik / Radcontrols for Silverlight /
  • About
  • Configure Project
  • Add Radcontrols Scenario
  • Launch Toolbox Configurator

There is not an upgrade option.
    Regards
    Cliff

Hi,

There is a rare case when some files remain from the previous installations and thus breaking the VSExtensions. I guess you might have experienced that exact problem. Could you please try the following steps in order to reinstall the Extensions?

  1. Close all Visual Studio instances
  2. Use Windows Explorer to check the following two folders for "Telerik [ProductName] VSExtensions" subfolder and delete it if if exists:
    • %localappdata%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\Extensions\Telerik
    • [VisualStudioInstallDir]\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Telerik
  3. Open VS2010 and go to Tools -> Extension Manager. Go to the Online Gallery and in the Search field in the top right corner type Telerik.
  4. Download and install Telerik [ProductName] VSExtension. Restart the studio if it prompts to.
  5. Run Visual Studio again to check if everything is fine now.

Let me know if that helps.

Aylin,
