It would be really nice to have the ability to show and hide entites on the visual designer entity diagram.  It is very difficult to focus on a few relationships at a time, when I got relationship lines running all over the place. Maybe even - dare I say - multiple diagrams would also be a cool feature.

Hi Richard Pense,
We are starting work exactly on a feature like that (model visualization filtering). I hope we will be able to release it prior to Q2.

That's exactly the feature I would love to see: multiple views of the same diagram, where maybe each view is stored in its own file (perhaps with a .linqv extension). Alternatively it could be made in such a way that we can define multiple views of the diagram within the designer. Then we can pick the desired view from some dropdownlist. Per view, we can then  show / hide the models.

Anyway, looking forward to 2011 'Q1! :)

Hello Skywalker,
I would like to clarify few things about this feature request, as I suspect things are mixed together at the moment.

1. Being able to have multiple views on the same model - This is possible without hacks and without unjustified amount of development only in VS 2010. This means that Either we branch entirely the codebase for the VS2008 and VS2010 designer (which is a project on its own) or with time we obsolete the VS2008 designer. Either ways it would be a tough decision and we have to take first and foremost our customers opinions... So expect a survey very soon. Until we have a clear perspective what we have to do in this domain we will not act in a hasty manner.

2. Being able to fragment the model in files and/or sub-domain parts - Please read the answer above.

3. Having UI to apply filtering on the actual designer view - We are in the process of devising such an UI interface but things are moving slowly as we hit numerous problems with usability. Maybe this piece of functionality will be introduced later with Q1 SP1. Until then we will probably provide only commands for hiding and showing the entities per users request.

Kind regards,
