I have a sample of a beta speech recognition control that you guys were working on last year and I was wondering if I could get a status update on this. any idea if this will ever be an actual released control? if so I have a few implementation questions about it.
like:
1. Do you think this could used as an always on function in my app (example: if user leaves app open it waits for a keyword to activate)
2. Do you think that would have a very negative effect on battery?

Thanks!
Jason

Hi Jason,

Thanks for writing and for your questions.

The Telerik Speech Recognition tools are something like a research project to identify the potential usage scenarios. We haven't done much since their release since the demand for such tools wasn't that big. As you may have already seen, we have a version of our Picture Gallery app using these tools which should be useful as a reference guide when integrating the tools into other apps.

Now directly to your questions:

1. These tools work exactly this way: they constantly listen for voice input and according to the commands you have defined, they execute them once the input is recognized.

2. Yes, when the Speech Recognition mechanism is enabled listening for commands it performs processing constantly which will surely consume battery power.

Let me know should you have additional questions here.
