[Solved] Unable to access data from GridView using UI spy

Hi,

We are currently assesing Silverlight's fit for a new project and one of the key decision points is ease of writing automated tests. We are planning to use WHITE and it seems to work well with most of the Telerik controls. However, we are unable to access the data from the grids and do any assertions.

Can you suggest any solution for this problem?

Thank you for your interest in our RadGridView control. We would be really happy to have you as a customer and we will do our best to resolve the issues you are having.

Currently we have implemented a bunch of automation peers for the basic grid elements- RadGridView, GridViewRows, GridViewCells,GridViewNewRow - the UIAutomation is still not complete, but we are working on improving the accessibility of RadGridView control.

I have succeed accessing the RadGridView using UISpy and the White testing tool. Please find attached the application I prepared for you.
 
If you still need our assistance, can you please elaborate on how you are accessing the grid control? May I ask for more information about your scenario so that we can try to reproduce the problem and help you faster.

This is just a follow-up to my colleague's response. I'd like to use your question sharing some information for those like you interested in the test automation.

As you probably know the latest addition to the Telerik portfolio is the WebUI Test Studio test automation solution. Powered by ArtOfTest it gives you test recorder built in Visual Studio. I'd like to point out the following benefits you might be interested in:

• The productivity (test creation) is incomparable with the coded tests the test automation frameworks give.
• The priority support provided by the Telerik staff is always taken as a top priority task.
• The RadControls Translators are built for the special purpose to provide the test automation recording of our RadControls out-of-the-box. This means you don't need to worry about the complexity of our components -- accessing the RadGridView data is such a task you will get for free.

Although currently WebUI Test Studio fulfills the needs of the ASP.NET applications test automation only, we are working on its Silverlight support as well. We expect to be able to release a public Beta later this summer. In the meantime, you can take a look at the underlying framework already used actively for test automation of Silverlight applications -- ArtOfTest's WebAii. The blog post here will give you a clear picture of what you can expect if/when start using the framework.

Additionally, you can check out this video on Telerik TV demonstrating the test recording with WebUI Test Studio for an application based on RadGrid for ASP.NET AJAX. Customers will get pretty much the same experience with the RadGridView for Silverlight component soon.

There are more then 40 videos on the site showing the main functionality of the test studio.
