I know that this can not be done and when a column is rendered as a template it looses all functionality. This seems like a major shortcoming in my opinion to the grid control. You can not make a cell a link, you can not add additional formatting like a picture beside the cell. Does anyone know if this functionality is to be added in a future release?

Hi Austin Oberholtzer,
The MVC grid supports templates in the current release.
Indeed server side templates (used with server binding) are lost when using ajax binding. In a future release we will add support for client-side templates however they will be in no way as flexible as the server ones.
Fortunately we have a workaround for having templates and ajax binding. You can find it in described in this help topic. You can also check this forum thread for a real life example.
