Hi guys,

With the Q1 2009 release, all skins submitted last year are now obsolete. As long as there will be major changes in the skins mechanism between releases, we obviously won't get any long lasting user skins. I understand perfectly that these changes are necessary, I'm just wondering how you see the skin exchange program evolving.

Was there much download of the custom skins uploaded last year?
Are you still determined to keep the exchange program alive?

In any case I uploaded a combobox skin yesterday. But I can't find the skin exchange forum, there was such a forum right?

Hello -DJ-,

We’re currently focused in developing the Visual Style Builder; we have the idea of extending it (once it’s ready), so that the skins that one creates can be easily shared with the community. There is much that can be developed in this direction – say, a site that is devoted entirely to the skinning process – which would be more designer-oriented than the current documentation. The idea, however, is quite fuzzy for now, as it depends on the VSB – and therefore, we couldn’t give a timeframe on when it would happen.

If you have any thoughts in that direction, we would be happy if you share them – and shape the future ;-)

P.S. Regarding the ComboBox skin that you sent, it will be uploaded and it will work with the Q1.2009, as RadComboBox does not have any skin-breaking changes. I’m sorry for the delay.

Best wishes,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Thank you for the info.
The Retto combo and Retto window skins I uploaded recently are actually both designed for Q1 2009.

I've only just started skinning the Q1 2009 controls, but so far it seems easier than skinning the Q3 2008 controls.

I think that some sort of an auto-submit function from VSB is a great idea.

Just a few more thoughts I want to throw in.

I know it's undecided what you guys want to do with the Skin Exchange Program, but the confusion seems a bit high. While my Retto combobox skin has already been added to the Skins download section, the Retto window skin hasn't.

Url for the window skin:
http://www.telerik.com/community/code-library/aspnet-ajax/skin-exchange/retto-skin-for-window.aspx

I personally think we should continue with the Exchange Program until anything has been decided. I'm sure many designers are busy making new skins for Q1 2009 as well as remaking older skins, so it should be a perfect time trying to hype the program.

Especially since there is so much negative response at the moment towards the embedded skins. It could be helpful in part at least having some amount of custom skins available.

That's all for now.

Hello -DJ-,

Your Retto for RadWindow skin is already available for download at http://www.telerik.com/skins. There has been a sort of misunderstanding, and this is why the upload of Retto was delayed.

Kind regards,

Hi Martin,

Okillidokilli, I can see it has been added. I have a few more skins in progress that I will happily upload, trying to keep the Exchange Program alive :)

I've uploaded a few skins that haven't been processed yet. (upload was performed last week).

These are bundles, with 2 or more skins with the same feel, one is called Samstiga and the other JonDan.
