[Solved] The assembly reference "ArtOfTest.WebAii.Design, could not be added to the project

Hi,

I downloaded the "new" trial version of the WebUI Test Studio, WebUITestStudio_2009.2.924_trial.msi

HW:
Windows XP SP3 English, Clean and all patches applied by today
VS2008 Professional Edition SP1

When trying to add a new WebAii Test to my project I get a:
The assembly reference "ArtOfTest.WebAii.Design, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=4fc62bbc3287ab1d" could not be added to the project.

What I find strange is that there is no install folder for:
C:\Program Files\ArtOfTest\WebAii 2.0\Bin

The same error is also reported on this newgroup by Christian, http://www.telerik.com/community/forums/automated-testing/general-discussions/webui-test-studio-a-technical-problem.aspx on Win 7.


Any progress on this issue ?

Hi SwanB,

So far we have been unable to reproduce this error. We've tried both Windows 7 and XP SP3.

The .dll you're looking for is located in "C:\Program Files\Telerik\WebUI Test Studio Q2 2009\ArtOfTest\Design Canvas 1.1\Bin". We deliberately placed it in a different folder than the ArtOfTest version so you can't get the files mixed up between WebUI Test Studio and ArtOfTest's Design Canvas.

I did some more testing on the issue.

The HW:
Windows XP SP3 English, Clean and all patches applied by today
VS2008 Professional Edition SP1
Running as a VMWare vSphere image, specifically built for this evaluation.

After running the install WebUITestStudio_2009.2.924_trial.msi, the folder:
C:\Program Files\Telerik\WebUI Test Studio Q2 2009\ArtOfTest\    -  is NOT created at all.

In fact, only the folder + sub folders:
C:\Program Files\telerik\WebUI Test Studio Q2 2009\RadControls Translators        - IS created

I run the same install on a Win 2003 Server, and it flawlessly also created
C:\Program Files\Telerik\WebUI Test Studio Q2 2009\ArtOfTest\  + sub folders and files etc....

What is strange is if I run a previous install file(WebUITestStudio_2009.2.701_trial.exe) on the XP SP3 image, everything is installed OK, but this is a much older version. Has there been any breaking changes in this newer install ?

We will continue our testing in order to replicate the problem you experience on this particular machine but please let me ask you a few more clarifying questions.

1. By clean machine do you mean you had no Automation Design Canvas or any other release of WebUI Test Studio installed prior to installing the new 924 update?
2. Also it is not clear whether you have Design Canvas/ WebAii framework v1.1 installed on this machine after running the latest test studio installer or are those missing completely? Please note the current distribution of WebUI Test Studio is based on WebAii v1.1 so you should have ArtOfTest products marked as v1.1 installed running the test studio installer.

Excactly, this virtual machine is set up only to evaluate the WebAii framework.

2. Also it is not clear whether you have Design Canvas/ WebAii framework v1.1 installed on this machine after running the latest test studio installer or are those missing completely? Please note the current distribution of WebUI Test Studio is based on WebAii v1.1 so you should have ArtOfTest products marked as v1.1 installed running the test studio installer.

After running the Test Studio Installer only files below this path, is installed:
C:\Program Files\Telerik\WebUI Test Studio Q2 2009\RadControls Translators

PS. to save time, I suggest I set up an electronic meeting, for you to have a look at the virtual machine, please contact me offline.
The findings can be posted in thread afterwards.

Hi SwanB,

Unfortunately, it looks like we are still unable to reproduce the problem at the moment. However, based on your description and as a workaround, if you wish to continue using the XP VPC to evaluate WebUI, you can install the attached MSI.

Please make sure both WebAii 1.1 Framework and Design Canvas are not in your installed programs before attmpting to install the attached file. You can then manually add the DLLs from the C:\Program Files\Telerik\WebUI Test Studio Q2 2009\RadControls Translators\Bin folder in your test project references and you should be able to continue your testing.

I'll also continue to look into reproducing the proble you are seeing.

We isolated and fixed the problem with the latest internal build of WebUI Test Studio v1.1. The build is accessible for everyone who has downloaded the latest official release corresponding to the 2009 Q2 SP2. Here is a direct link to the internal build:
