Hi

I've been playing around with the richtextbox component for a few days and must say that it looks really nice.

It seems that when a document contains '\r' when using the TxtFormatProvider, it cannot format the text correctly.
Also been having problems with tables with the DocxFormatProvider. But I'm guessing that these are issues that you are looking into.

The other would be the support for other document types like PDF. I have read in this forum that it is a priority, but do you have a more specific idea of when this support will be added?
I'm just wondering as I want to have some more specific information to give back to our clients.

Regards
Sindre

Hello Sindre,

Thank you for your interest in RadRichTextBox and your positive feedback.

Your observations about incorrect behavior are just as welcome. We will look into the issues you have mentioned and make sure it works ok in the upcoming Q3 release. Can you elaborate on the problems you have stumbled upon with the tables in DOCX?

As it comes to PDF export, we have introduced this feature in the recent Q3 2010 Beta Release. You can check it out in our demo here.

Kind regards,
Iva

I will try to reproduce the behavior regarding docx import in a more controlled and stripped down environment and post my results here if they are similar to what I have found so far.
The problem was that the richtextbox would present the table as one cell per line like a list only preserving the textformatting like bold text in the headers.

When it comes to PDF, I was thinking more in the way of importing and displaying pdf documents. Is this a feature that will be supported?

Exporting to PDF looks great! Can already see the opportunities in this functionality! Is there a way to automate this behaviour and for instance creating a pdf on the fly, placing it on the desktop?

Hi Sindre,

Thank you once again for your involvement in RadRichTextBox. It will be great if you manage to reproduce the issue with the tables' export to DOCX and send over a sample project.

Regarding the PDF import, we have planned to develop this feature but haven't scheduled it yet. However, PDF files, as well as XPS files, represent fixed documents. Thus, it will be possible to load and view them in RadRichTextBox, but in a ReadOnly mode (changes to the document will not be allowed).

As it comes to the automatic export you inquired about, that would not be possible due to limitations that Silverlight imposes. In Silverlight applications, files can be created only through SaveFileDialog and all dialogs have to be user-initiated. You can read more on this topic in MSDN.

If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to contact us again.

Best wishes,
