Does anyone have information on the RIA DataSource under development by Telerik?  It was announced for Q3 2010.

Hi Ceramist,

Let me share more details about this upcoming control. In general it will mimic the API of Microsoft's DomainDataSource control as well as provide a codeless integration with our other data related components such as RadGridView, RadDataFilter, RadDataPager, etc.

Some questions that you may ask as well:

• What do we mean by codeless? - all data operations including sorting, filtering, paging will be executed on the server without the need for any custom code.
• Will there be other value added features over the Microsoft's implementation? - Yes there will be. Maybe not in the first release, but we plan to add features like filter composition, aggregations, pluggable and adaptive data page caching, projections and other interesting extensions. Once we validate the concept we will start to implement all those features based on your (the community) feedback.

My other question would be if this software might work well in MVVM patterns?

Hi Ceramist,

This will work great in MVVM scenarios. Our version will derive directly from DependencyObject. Also we will expose MVVM friendly CollectionView implementation that will be reusable outside of the data source control itself.
