Hi martin,
You can use Esc key to remove the highlighting. Sorry for the confusion. Do you find the highlighting helpful? We are considering an option to disable the highlighting after find usages.

Doh! didn't try the escape key. Sorted now.
In answer to your question I think the highlighting is an excellent edition, anything that makes searching easier is welcome.
I like the find results window as well lot nicer to use that the built in find results 1 window currently in VS2008
