Dear Telerik team,

We are using DataGrid in our app. What would be the convincing reasons to switch to RadGridView.
Do you have a feature comparison sheet between standard DataGrid and RadGridView ? What I would gain and lose when moving from DG to RGW ?

I expect that one of the selling point is the "outstanding performance" as you mentioned in the description.
Could you be more specific and add some figures to support this, especially in the comparison with DataGrid.

Thanks !
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

We have quite ambitious goals for RadGridView for Silverlight. We want it to be the fastest and most feature rich grid on the market. To make that happen we are working on providing more features than the Microsoft DataGrid component -- I am talking about stuff like hierarchy support, etc. Apart from features and performance, RadGridView has one unique feature -- it is source code-compatible with RadGridView for WPF. Standardizing development on the components, customers can easily transfer existing skills across platforms and port parts of their apps if needed.

Right now RadGridView for Silverlight is still in beta and we are still not ready to publish performance metrics and feature comparisons. Our plan is to do that with our Q1 2009 release -- that is when RadGridView gets official.

Does this mean you currently don't have hierarchy support?

Hello Tony,

Indeed currently our official Silverlight beta does not support hierarchy however I'm happy to inform you that this is already implemented in our latest internal build.

Best wishes,

We are  in a process of selecting 3rd party controls for our web application, How does RADGridView compare with Infragistic GridView, What i will loose or gain if i choose RADGridView.

hierarchy support is important to us which infragistic already provides, I read that this will be available in your Q1 release, i would be interested to see a sample of this feature if it is already implemented.

Hi Subodh,

Since the grid (and all other controls) shares the same code for WPF and SL you can use the same approach (same code). Please check this demo for more info:

I have read that the RADGridView will be officially released in Q1, I would like to know the exact month in which you will be releasing it, I guess the hierarchy support will be available in this release?

I downloaded the trial pack for RAD silverlight controls (Q3 2008), I was not able to find the grid view contol here, I would need this contol to verify whether it meets our requirement, please help me on this. it will be nice to have a build having the RADGridview that supports hierarchy

Hello Subodh,

Currently RadGridView for SL is only available in our Futures release and it is not included in the official one (RadControls for Silverlight 2008.31217). In order to try the grid you should download Futures (automatic installation) that is available under Free Trials -> RadControls for Silverlight.
Our SL hierarchy support will be inctroduced in our next relase, which is scheduled for early March.
