Hi,

I'm not sure if this is a problem with the RadChart or with Blend. When I use Blend Preview for Silverlight 5 to view a user control that contains a RadChart, the designer shows an unhandled exception error message, and the chart does not appear.

I haven't found a way to get the text of the error as text, but you can see the stack trace in the attached screenshot. It's complaining about a missing method System.Reflection.MethodInfo.CreateDelegate().

I have a sample project that reproduces the issue on my machine - I can provide it if you like. I'm using version 2011.3.1220.1050 of the Telerik controls, and version 4.1.10819.0 of Blend. I have version 5.0.61118.0 of the Silverlight developer runtime installed.

The RadChart works fine in Blend 4. Blend for Silverlight 5 has been working fine for us so far, with other Telerik controls such as the RadGridView.

The RadChart also shows up OK in an SL5 project in the VS 2010 designer - just not in Blend.

Please let me know if there's any workaround for this.

Thanks for your help,
Richard Beier

Hi Richard,

The reported problem seems to be the same as the described here and here. The changes that trigger the exception are caused by the Silverlight 5 framework itself and as far as we know the problem is reproducible on x64 machines only. Microsoft is aware of the issue and we hope new Silverlight Tools version will become available to fix this design-time issue.

The strange thing with your issue is that you are saying that everything works as expected in the VS designer. Can you please send to us the mentioned project so we can test it locally?

Thank you in advance,
Sia

Hi Sia,

Interesting - thanks for the info. You're right, I am running 64-bit Windows 7. I also found this similar bug report for SL5.

Our main project with the chart is a fairly large app, and I haven't had time to cut it down to a minimal example that I can send to you. In our main project, the chart shows up correctly in the VS 2010 designer, but not in Blend. There are a number of other Telerik controls that Blend has issues with in our main project - see my comment about this in a separate thread. Blend gives us different errors for those controls than it does for the chart - so it may be a separate problem.

I did create a sample project from scratch, to test the chart issue. In this sample project, the chart shows correctly in the VS designer, but only if the project has been built. If I clean the solution, the sample project gives me the same error in VS that I get in Blend. But strangely, if I clean the solution in our main project, that chart shows up fine in VS. So the sample does not exactly reproduce what's happening with our main project.

I'll submit a support ticket with the sample, in case it's useful.

Thanks,
Richard

I've uploaded the sample project with this support ticket. (I logged in as Tony, since he purchased the license for me.)

Thanks

Hi Richard,

Thank you very much for the sample project. I confirm that the problem is reproducible only in Blend and it is already forwarded to our developers who will investigate it and provide a fix if possible. Please find your Telerik points updated.

Meanwhile please add your email to the list of licensed developers in the Tony's account. In that way you will be marked as a user with active support in our system.

All the best,
Sia
