As of early 07 Telerik was not offering support for getting the controls working with HP's QTP automated testing tool.  Is this still the case?

We currenly are looking for help from an automated testing tool to test our UI.  This UI utilizes Telerik grid and combobox controls, and it seeems these controls are not "playing well" with the testing tool.

Hi Erik,

We do not "support" any automation tool. We just use the most appropriate tool for RadControls complete functional testing - Selenium.

You can review for example this forum thread discussing the topic in details.

Hi all,

Just want to update this old forum thread since people are still referring it.

For test automation of RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX and now Silverlight we highly recommend the Telerik test automation solution -- WebUI Test Studio. It also features built-in RadControls Translators making the automation of RadControls-based application straight-forward.

Sincerely yours,

I tried using your Web UI test tool. It appears that the new version of your Telerik tool has a lot of issues in terms of set-up in Windows XP. I have followed the instructional videos and the telerik toolbar still does not appear in the browsers.

Are you still using Selenium for your testing?

Hi John,

WebUI Test Studio has been our internal main automation tool already for an year now.

I'm sorry for the problem on recording you experience. This could be either an installation or configuration issue on your end. I'm sure we can resolve that quickly.

By following the videos, do you mean configuring the IE browser for automation instructions? Which IE version are you running at? Would you mind submitting a support ticket for the product or post in the automated testing tools forums with any details you can share about your environment?

Kind regards,
Konstantin Petkov

Hi,

I have downloaded your Web Ui test tool last March 2009, and the latest version on April 15, 2010. Sadly the only working version is the March 2009 version.

I have followed the instructional video on this page:
http://tv.telerik.com/webui+test+studio/video/configure-xp-web-ui-testing

I am running the IE 7 and IE 8 versions which are supported by your latest release. My OS is Windows XP SP 2 with VSTS 2008. I have searched for some related posts regarding Web Ui Test Tool, but there aren't any sufficient data regarding my issue.

We are currently looking for better automation tools which could work for Telerik. One important factor that we are considering is the ease of installation. I find it awkward to do a bunch of security-related configurations before the "latest" release could work properly, especially if we are a group of 25 people in the project.

Is it possible to post the solution on this thread rather than submitting a support ticket so that the public could readily view the solution?

Hello John,

I'd also prefer to have the solutions in the forums. I'd just love to have such in the correct forums so that people can find it easily.

As to the problem on your end, can you please take a look at the IE Add-ons? You should have two items as in the attached image. Make sure those are available and enabled. You can also try disabling any other IE add-ons preferably one by one to find if any conflict breaks the recorder. If you find such conflict the information will be highly appreciated.

Finally, I'd suggest trying an installation repair. It can surely fix any issues like unregistered add-ons or missing registry settings.

Let us know if this helps or if you need further assistance.

Edit: I've updated the screen capture. I posted an incorrect Add-Ons capture by mistake.

Hello Konstantin,

I've looked at the IE Add-on list and found two items: the Web UI test Studio Recorder, and WebAii Test Execution Extension. May I know if I need to have Web Test Recorder 9.0 installed? I couldn't seem to find this add-on even after running the "Repair" feature of the installer.

Kindly see the screenshot and please let me know what I am missing here.

Thanks and regards,

John

Hello John,

The Web Test Recorder is not part of the WebUI Test Studio product, I'm sorry for the confusion caused by my screen shot. It's part of Visual Studio Team Test and you can read more about it here.

As to the error you get, please take a look at the forum thread here. I hope this helps!

Should you need additional help, I will kindly ask you to start a thread in the automated testing tools forums. It will be much easier for us to help you there and also share the discussion with those interested in WebUI Test Studio. Thank you for the understanding!
